right ive been on atkins for a month now and i thought i was doing great!

i just weighed myself tonight and i dont know if my scales are playing tricks but ive put on nearly 14 pounds in 5 days?

do you think this might just be with the amount of water im drinking?

i drink atleast 5 litres of water a day,i feel great, just wondered why i can put on so much weight in no time?its very offputing

im sticking with the induction for now,any help support would be great

please note im only eating induction food and have done for the past month

    Re: some help please

That is a lot to gain in such a short time. I think you will need to post what you are actually eating in a typical day (including quantities of each food).

Drinking water will not make you gain. It must be something else.

Have you measured yourself? How are your clothes fitting compared to 5 days ago?

Did you move the scales or could they need a new battery? Are you always weighing at the same time of day, and while wearing the same clothes if any?

        Re: some help please

Well, you shouldn't be having sweetcorn and carrots on induction, those are starchy vegetables with lots of carbs, they come right at the end of OWL.
Edit: carrots are starchy vegetables, rung 8. Sweetcorn would be a grain I think, rung 9.

But if your clothes are falling off you and you haven't noticed any gain on your body, I think there must be a mistake in the scales or something. Unless you have been exercising so much that you might have gained a lot of muscle weight ...?

          Hey DJB,

I am a little confused, in another post you said you were losing a lot. Did you mean pounds or inches? And your ticker says you have lost 22#. Is that before you started Atkins?

14# is quite odd to gain in a week.

Also, it is easier for people to give you helpful answers if you tell us a little about yourself in your signature. Some answers will be based on that information.

"tbh my clothes and falling off me" And are you saying your clothes are feeling loose? If so, Like Rosie said your scale may have a problem.

Regarding your food, have you read the book and/or the stickie notes here? Are you using Fitday? Your food choices seem to be missing fat and the proper veggies.

            Re: some help please

I think you need to reread this part, http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-induction.htm
It tells exactly what to eat, just look for the foods and make sure they are listed. The sweet corn and carrots won't be on there! They could make you hold a little water, but not 14 pounds worth I wouldn't think. The clothes shouldn't be loose if you're holding that much water, heck you might look toxic holding that much water! Check the scale, maybe get a new one if it can't be fixed. You should be eating two cups of salad veggies plus one cup of veggies from the other list on induction. That's it for your veggies until you move to OWL. Checkout the facts in these forums anytime you are in doubt about what you are eating. Sausages can have fillers, bacon can be sugar cured so be careful of anything that isn't fresh and in its natural state. You wouldn't believe what sugar and corn syrup are added to. Even Rotisserie chickens can be shot up with sugar water. I'm so not even kidding about that one! Try hamburger, country style ribs, chicken leg-quarters for good cheap meats if you have any trouble finding safe sausages. You don't even want to know how many times I've eaten something and bloated because I didn't study the label hard enough, soon enough. Just check the foods list, then double check your food labels just to be safe.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

              Re: some help please

First of all, you are not doing Induction as Rita has already told you, so it is possible that you have not lost because you are eating foods keeping you out of ketosis. You need to restart Induction and do it properly after learning how. You can't get into ketosis eating corn and carrots.

I applaud your water drinking and am assuming you mean plain water and no sweeteners or flavors added. Good for you.

You should weigh first thing in the morning. By night your body is storing water and you have been ingesting food and drink all day. You will almost always weigh heavier at night. Plus you should always use the same scale. It is rare to have two scales give you the same weight so it helps to keep that part consistent.

If you are female, TOM can play a big part in weight gains. I gain 5 pounds every month like clockwork.

i will ditch the sweetcorn and carrots, and replace with mushrooms, brocli etc
i will also try to add more eggs and chicken and somemore cheese into my diet.

i think i started eating sweetcorn because i only read the carb count in themn and thought they were safe.

                    Re: some help please

Atkins has a plan and structure as to what kind of carbs to introduce when. It isn't just the amount but the type of carb that can make a difference. We all learn we have problem foods. Some stall us, some make us hungry, some we plain eat too much of. Head on over to OWL and look at the carb ladder. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...te-ladder.html This will help you understand what order to add the carbs after to move on from induction. Its very much like figuring out what foods you are allergic to if you had allergies to foods. By introducing carbs from different families in order of which ones are easiest on a body and which ones are hardest on a body, you find your natural limitations. You can skip a rung and try a higher rung. You may find you have to keep your daily carbs low and swap things from the higher rungs in and out or only eat them a few times a week to still loose. But just counting the carbs isn't enough to make this diet work for everyone because everyone is different and foods are all very different. You clean your body with induction, then in OWL you start to introduce other carbs and see what happens. The doctors scale may end your worries for now, but it still won't hurt to read up on the carb ladder.

Your food choices seem fine and 'legal' though if you are eating chicken breast without the skin it would be far higher in protein than fat, so you do need to add more fat to that meal. Also prawns and some fish are low in fat too.
I will look out for your other post to add some advice if I can.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
