So its the end of week one-Induction-and I have followed the diet exactly as stated. I have kept count of every carb intake in my journal, and have maintained myself under 20 each day this week. I also purchased the ketone sticks, and have been in ketosis...got on the scale today... no weightloss. Not one pound. So I am wondering if anyone knows what this could be due to. I am 5'4, weight 134 lbs, and do workout regularly and lift weights, so what I have to lose isnt much. Could this be why??? Is it possible I just need to give it a lil longer?? So frustrated. Any suggestions?

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
I have no doubt someone will ask to see your menu, so you may as well start typing it up
, but I will say this: I had a relatively small amount of weight to lose, somewhere between 12 and 15 pounds. I reached what I presumed was my goal weight (I was not quite sure what my body was capable of, so my goal was a dress size rather than a weight) a while back but went through excruciatingly long periods where my weight loss was close to nil. I decided to keep going, just to see what I could do, and I've actually been plateaued for months. Now my weight just bounces around within a 3-5 pound range depending upon how much salt I consumed the prior day or whether it's that time of the month.
I do think that having less to lose will make the process a bit slower and perhaps more frustrating. I've seen others on here say that when they get close to their goal weight, the final five pounds or so are excruciatingly difficult to lose.
Keep going. If you are anything like me, you will have sudden drops that provide motivation just when you need it most. Good luck!

I agree with this. The less you have to lose the slower it goes.Originally posted by LageNomAi View PostI do think that having less to lose will make the process a bit slower and perhaps more frustrating. If you haven't already done this...take measurements. Sometimes you lose inches not pounds.
And as was mentioned..there might be some hidden things in your diet that are holding you up. Are you drinking water? Drinking anything else?
Don't give up!

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
Thank you so much for your suggestions and encouragement. Here is my diet... please let me know what you think
Breakfast- 2 egg whites, 1 yolk, 0 carb sausage link (3 carbs)
Snack- 1 oz of almonds (5 carbs)
- 1 oz of cheese ( 0 carbs)
Lunch- chicken or tuna with a side of veggies- total 7 carbs
Dinner- chicken or tuna, 1 oz almonds or side of veggies
For beverages---water water water....and green tea (no sugar or substitues)
Thats pretty much it...I am adhering to it very strictly. I will take measurements and see if that helps...but if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!!!

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
Nuts aren't allowed on Induction. And you would only have 1 ounce per day even when they are allowed.
What "veggies"?
How much water??
Why only 1 egg yolk?
I suspect the sausage links really do have carbs ... what's the list of ingredients.
All cheese has carbs ... it's just the label that says 0.J.

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
Wow I must have misread about the nuts...ok those are out for induction...good...got that solved. For veggies, its a mix of brocolli and carrots (1 cup), water is constant....all day. The one egg yolk is just because I am worried about cholesterol and I like the taste of eggs much better with less yolk. As far as cheese and sausage did go by the 0 carb on the label...but am not having much of it...so I dont believe those could be the culprit.

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
Carrots aren't allowed on Induction either.
>>As far as cheese and sausage did go by the 0 carb on the label.>>
Regardless, the cheese has carbs and I bet if you look at the list of ingredients on the sausage, there will be sugar and/or spices ... both of which have carbs.
>>I dont believe those could be the culprit>>
Perhaps there is no "culprit".
>>he one egg yolk is just because I am worried about cholesterol>>
Then you're not understanding about dietary cholesterol! What you eat doesn't really increase your cholesterol.
You are reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), right?
You have printed out a copy of the Acceptable Foods for Induction, right?

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
I am reading the book, and am trying my best to adhere to what I have learned so far...but again I am into this 1 week and still learning. I will take the list and go shopping. Water is over 64 oz for sure. I dont stop drinking water all day, I am constantly thirsty. I think that everything you pointed out could be the reason I am not seeing results. Is mineral oil ok to have to aid with constipation?

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
How much water are you drinking? The MINIMUM is 64 ounces -- that's plain water, nothing added. If you are drinking soda or anything with aspartame that could also be causing you to not loose weight.
What exercise are you doing? It's mandatory when following the Atkins plan. Since you haven't been eating the proper foods you should get a copy of the book, read it and make sure you are following the plan as written. Eating carrots & nuts didn't help you. Everything you put into your mouth could be "the culprit" - read the ingredients not just the line that says "0 carbs". Learn the names of sugar in all it's forms so you know what you are eating. One of the ways you can make sure you aren't getting any sugar in your sausage is to make your own.
As far as being concerned about cholesterol, most people who follow the Atkins plan lower their cholesterol totals.....and we eat eggs!
Are you counting net carbs? That is carbs minus fiber. We go by 20 NET carbs daily. Are you close to your time of the month? That could also be a factor in your not loosing any weight.
You need 2 cups of salad vegetables from the acceptable list and 1 cup of vegetables from the "other" list daily.....those veggies have more fibre and will help keep you regular.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

>>I am reading the book,>>
Chapter 11 ... the list of induction foods. There are no carrots listed ... there are no nuts.
Dr. Atkins talks about reading the list of ingredients ... and that cheese has carbs!
I understand you're still learning ...
>> Is mineral oil ok to have to aid with constipation?>>
You would be better off with vegetables or flax meal, in my opinion. Training your body with "laxatives" isn't something you want to do long term.J.

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
Well, your BMI is 23, which is in the normal range. Muscle is heavy too.
You may perceive yourself as fat, but according to your numbers, you are of normal weight, and BMI has a very narrow definition of normal weight.
A lot of times gyms will measure a person's body fat composition and tell you what a healthy range is, and if you are in it. This can be much more helpful than weight/height alone.

Re: In Need of some SERIOUS encouragement!
DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!!!! I want to tell you my experience since I am in a similar position to you.
When I am discipline about eating few carbs on an ongoing basis, my body naturally likes to stay at about 130. (I am 5'1", which means I am a little thick)
A few years ago when I decided to really restrict my carbs, I was on induction for 20 days before the very first pound came off, but THEN 15-20 pounds came off within three months.
Over the last few years, I've been less self discipline and slowly the 20 have crept back on. This time around, I was on induction for 17 days - absolutely no change, then five pounds off all at once. That's where I am now.
For those that are obese (or more), weight loss goes much more quickly. For those of us that have a start and a goal weight that are closer together, it seems like either it takes longer to get the ball rolling or the ball just rolls slower. We simply can not expect the same results as quickly as everyone else on the board. They have different experiences because they are starting at a different place.
I hope you are encouraged and continue!!!
