  • I can hardly find any Low Carb anything in Jacksonville Fl

    Anyone here from JAX, FL?

I can hardly find anything in the way of low carb snacks. Walmart has Breyers 4nc, but ONLY in chocolate. I found nothing at Winn-Dixie or Publix. It is like everyone forgot the Atkins Diet or Low Card diet in general. There was a product from Russell Stover called Low Carb Chocolate Sauce, in the reviews everyone gave it a 9 out of 10, but magically it has been discontinued.

I ONCE had the Atkins ice cream in the little cups and it was good, but I can't find it anywhere. I rear that Klondike has the Carb Smart Ice Cream Bars, but alas.... I can't find that. And as for the Breyers ice cream, they have vanilla and neapolitan flavors, but like I said, the only one Walmart carries is the chocolate.

I don't have time to make my own like many of you on here do, so I guess I am SOL if I get sick of chocolate.

Is there a place on line where I can get low carb ice cream delivered? Man... when I was in Houston Tx., there were low carb bakeries all over the place making fresh low carb bread, cookies, cakes and all kinds of good stuff. About 5 or 6 years ago when I was still in Miami, there were these ice cream shops called De-Lites or something like that, they only served low carb. It is sad to see that the "Atkins" craze it no longer

Did all the stores close, so that there is no place left where you can buy veggies, meat, eggs, cheese, etc.?

One does not need ice cream to do Atkins.

You want to change your eating habits, don't you? Do you honestly believe that eating low carb ice cream will help?

They are doing low carbers a favor, I believe. No matter how you spin it, low carb junk food is still junk food!

I had ice cream twice in the past 2 years. Every time I made it myself. Making ice cream once a year is not a big deal. Of course, making it a few times a week is not so convenient...

Bread, cookies, cakes, ice cream... Don't you see the "problem" in what you wrote?

And since you are in Induction, breads and "all kinds of good stuff" would not be allowed since they are made with grains (OWL Rung 9), soy (Rung 6) or, at least, nuts (Rung 3).

Breyers ice cream is not appropriate for Induction either. One of the ingredients is milk (Rung 2).

I am not one for sweet on a regular bases, heck, I don't even eat ice cream, but for some reason I was in the mood and all I found was the chocolate. As for the cakes and cookies etc, I was just making a point. Even before getting on the Atkins, I never ate that, I was never into chips, candy bars, donuts or any of that stuff.

As for jumping on my case about wanting something other than broccoli or celery sticks, don't! If it is low carb or zero carb then what is the difference. If you want to stick to alfalfa sprouts as your dessert so be it, but don't come down on me if I want something that is just as safe and low in carbs, but tastes good. I mean Jesus Christ!!! You jumped me as if I said that I just ate a whole chocolate cake and 2 gallons of milk

And BTW, I am not on the induction. I just have not updated my acct, but then again I don't recall asking if low carb ice cream was ok for the induction phase.

Hmmm.... I guess the Desserts sub forum was accidentally placed in here then. Funny though how it is FULLED with countless threads about "low carb junk food" and the people that want them. Why don't you go in there and try to make everyone that posted feel like Sh1t, as you tried to do me!!??

I am so sick of people trying to preach their own personal religion on how to do something and condemning those who do it differently, yet in the end getting the same results!!!

I was an avid power lifter before my car accident. I was benching 410lbs and leg pressing 1500lbs, so yeah I knew want I was doing. I trained many people with my personal technique, but never once did I tell them they could not do something differently when it would yield the very same results!!!

Re: I can hardly find any Low Carb anything in Jacksonville Fl

FWIW, I experienced something similar when I went back on Atkins after taking a hiatus for my pregnancies. All of the convenient low-carb foods that I enjoyed my first time around had disappeared, which was extremely disappointing to me, to put it mildly.

After the initial disappointment and "what do I do now?!?" phase, I learned to work around it. There are some incredibly creative recipes in the desserts folder, as well as on this website. Also, try Googling "low carb recipes;" you might be surprised with how much comes up. Basically it took some research on my part and snooping around various low-carb websites, but I've found enough recipes to keep me happy without having to buy pre-packaged, low-carb products. I also get the benefit of eating healthier in the process.

I will say that I visited my parents recently and they have low-carb ice cream in their area - holy cow was it good!!! - so it was stark reminder of what I'm missing. And yes, I miss the convenience factor a LOT. With two young kids, my time is incredibly limited and I have days where finding time to take a shower can be challenging. Unfortunately, the market has turned away from low-carb in general, so the demand for those products just isn't there anymore. Now I plan ahead as best I can. I'm no angel, but I'm making do.

            Good luck!

lol, I just bookmarked that website right before I read your post, lol, but none the less thank you for it

Yeah, it is funny that I want ice cream or any of the things I really didn't eat prior to the Atkins. Like I said, I am not an ice cream person, heck... I could go a year without eating any and as for the BIG sweet stuff, I just really didn't eat it. Funny thing, my buddy that I worked with ate sooo much sugar products that it made ME sick watching him eat it, lol, he lived (NO exaggeration) off convenient store or gas station food... blah!

But yeah, since back on the the Atkins I really don't miss anything specific, especially the sweets, but for some reason I wanted ice cream...

Do'h... I lied, lol, I do miss my sushi, sashimi and tempura

              Thanks for your reply!

Nothing wrong with eating Sashimi, just stay away from the Tempura and Rolls. Also stay away from the "dips" (Teriyaki and Soy).
Do you want a solution, or do you want me to tell you what you want to hear, which is what kept you the way you are.

something that is just as safe and low in carbs
Not as healthy and nutritious though.

I have never said that people should not have any desserts on Atkins, if this is what you are implying.

And if products is what you want... http://www.buyatkins.com/

They don't have ice cream though. But I've heard people saying that they freeze the shakes to make some sort of ice cream.

                  Good luck!

I don't often post here but feel the need to today. SM, I think you reacted way too harshly to Georgiana's advice. You posted looking for info/suggestions and she gave them to you --- according to the book and plan that this board follows.

I'm sure you won't like my saying that, but I think people play nicer on this board than what I read in your post.

One treat I like is this. It takes a few minutes of baking , but you can make them in advance, refrigerate, and get several servings from it.

On Linda's low carb website, under bread, there is a recipe for Improved Revolution Rolls. I make it for rolls, hamburger buns, sandwiches, the works. My husband is on Atkins approach as well, and he loves this recipe.

I have made smaller ones for "cookies." I used a teaspoon to make the drops, but you could make them any size. After they were done, I dusted them with a bit of Splenda and cinnamon. A couple of these were all I needed since they are filling.

They also taste like cream puffs to me, so I was thinking, for the holidays, I would put a a small amount of whipped cream on them.
Then I thought, well. I can make ice cream sandwiches by taking two of these "cookies" and put whipped cream in the center and freeze for a a few minutes. I suppose the
whipped cream could be flavored with Davinci syrup. Maybe a little bit of ground nuts if you can have them, allowed melted chocolate drizzle, hmmm, what else. LOL!!!! I can't wait to try this. I hope something like this will help.

Trying to imagine getting sick and tired of chocolate... nope won't happen. LOL Now I did make a low-carb cup of hot cocoa a couple weeks ago. It was awesome.

As to ice cream, Breyers makes CarbSmart ice cream available at many grocery stores. I've purchased it at WalMart markets here in Tulsa. To be honest, I only bought it once this time around doing Atkins as the sugar alcohols really didn't do well for my digestion. I'll just say it was a "musical" time and my DH wasn't too impressed. LOL Don't think I'll go there again.

As to current treats, I've really gotten into smoothies lately. Throw in a blender berries and about a cup of plain yogurt, a small splash of vanilla, squirt of liquid sweetener... let 'er rip... while it's blending drop 5 ice cubes in one at a time. It's a hug in a glass. Again, that's OWL eating not induction. Dunno where you're at there, but hope this helps.

I live in a rural area, about 2 1/2 hours north of Jax. I would have thought it would have been better to be able to shop at more places. I have went on and off Atkins for the past 2 years. When I'm on it, its always been just whole foods I can get at the store. Eventually that will get to a person and I'll end up having something off the diet. The result has been it has taken me twice as long to loose the weight as some other people. But it also did gradually change how I eat and shop on a regular basis too. I craved milk and ice cream for a good long time. I ended up a protein shake and it turned out to have soy in it. But some of the recipes don't look too hard to make. I'm not big on cooking so I can't say I've tried it. You can do it in a world bent on pushing low fat, and selling white flour and corn syrup in everything. But it will help if you start developing a deep love of hamburgers with cheese! There isn't too much I miss on a regular basis anymore. But I dream of Atkins tv dinners or something I could just nuke! But the whole foods we eat and the amounts cost companies more than white flour and junk they sell, so it just doesn't happen. If the foods were there and with a big price tag, I couldn't afford them anyway. I try to keep that in mind.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                              1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                              2nd mini goal: 140!
                              3rd mini goal:135!
                              4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.
