Thanks so much! Way to go to you also for staying on plan!! I had two Christmas dinners to go to (on different days) and had a salad at both! I was really proud of myself. I was going to eat some ham, but I passed because you never know what they could "inject" into it or what it was cured with! So I brought a boiled egg in my salad for the protein.

Sham- Thanks! Since I have been on Atkins my appetite is very much under control now. Sometimes I can eat just a little bit and feel like a ate a whole lot. I have a salad everyday for lunch and lots of water to wash it down with. Water also helps me stay full longer, and a lot of days, I drink a lot of it!! I am sooo determined too and a bit stubborn when it comes to stuff like that now. Like when my husband begs me for just one bite of whatever he is eating that I can't have, I just look away and say "No way!", he doesn't ask me to take bites anymore and is more "supporting" now. I would say if he saw me eat something I was not suppose to he would snatch it away now probably. I hope you get back on track and wish you the best of luck!!

Re: Confess did you cheat yesterday for xmas?

I didn't cheat. I spend my Christmas at a big family dinner. 99% of my relatives are overweight/obese. Watching them stuff themselves with pie, cake, cookies, chips, etc. helps to avoid doing that to myself----especially when they bring out photos from past Christmases and I see I was a huge as they were! Besides, I've spent too much time and energy losing my weight so, I don't want to undo what I've done.

Re: Confess did you cheat yesterday for xmas?

My holiday cheats in total, thus far, LOL (still have 2 days of family visiting, temptations abound), spread out over several days, have been 4 small cookies one day, and on one other day I had a few whole wheat crackers with some brie and 2 slices of whole wheat bread because I chose to have a ham sandwich, plus one small apple in the middle of the night one night. That's about it.

Due to various groups of friends, neighbors, family, co-workers, etc, my "holidays" has been going on near daily for more than a week now and continues for another several days. Given that, I think I'm doing alright overall. I have passed up countless foods, many sitting right here on my own kitchen counters, like the 3 pies/cakes plus chips and other snack items there right now which relatives are eating and I have had none of, nor do I want to. I gave consideration to each of those few items before I ate them, and considered the quantity, and did not just grab and stuff or binge. Other than the few cookies, at some point these items will be on my pre-maintenance or maintenance menus in moderation anyway, so I don't think they were terrible choices overall.

Luckily for me, I had no cravings resulting from these variations from my normal menus and got right back with my usual menus immediately afterwards. I haven't lost any weight due to these choices, which is as I expected, and was happy only to gain a couple pounds of what I assume to be water weight. I still managed to keep my calories at a normal level and kept all my carb intake quite low (lower than normal to help make up for the special items) on these days other than what these few items added (which, granted, was considerable). I'm happy with that and not at all disappointed in myself over these few choices I made after about half a year of nearly cheat free eating. I was glad to find out that I can occasionally choose to have a special item or two in moderation and not cause myself serious problems other than a (hopefully very temporary) halt in my weight loss. I will say, it will have to be a really special occasion to make even a temporary halt in my weight loss worth it. I have felt totally in control of my eating and hunger for months now, and felt like I could handle a couple of off-plan choices without going any further.

I understand this is not the case for a lot of people, and I really don't advise it to anyone. It is too easy for many people to fall totally off the wagon and may take months to get back on it, which would SO not be worth a few off-plan foods.

Let's get back to it everyone - time to re-commit!

I probably did this too. I didn't keep track or take exact measurements of foods but they were pretty inline with what proper portions should be. I think. Christmas dinner (luncheon) was buffet style at Mr. Ski's aunt & uncle's home: Roast turkey, five different fresh veggies (mega yaays on that! ) and the usual mashed potatoes, stuffing & gravy. Was very easy to have turkey and veggies. Had a bit of wine and passed on dessert as I was too full. Sipped a wonderful cup of fresh brewed tea from England while others ate the Christmas trifle.

I don't think people really notice (or care) what one is eating as they are too busy stuffing themselves with all the different foods. Different people have different food preferences or dietary needs so no one really paid attention to what anyone else was eating (or not eating). i.e., no one noticed or commented that I didn't have potatoes, stuffing, gravy or dessert. *I* did notice that some people really loaded up on the mashed potatoes and rolls but that is probably my carb mind at work.

It was a wonderful day that centered more around visiting with each other. My aunt-in-law did have an amazing array of sweets to have with tea afterwards but I think that because I've not had sweet things much during Atkins they were easy to resist. I also think that I know that just one of those cookies could change all that in an instant.

Cheated!!! Started when I made donuts Christmas morning for my children. Had one myself, it was down hill from there, luckily it wasn't a big hill. Next few days later at work, had fudge, and a couple other niceties...... Monday after christmas....back on track, takes me a strict 3 days to curb the "wants" 100%.

One bite is often "the kiss of failure". You've seen how one cheat can lead to another one... and another and another. Keep this in mind, so that you don't repeat the mistake.

I see you are very close to your goal. Are you planning to start OWL soon?

I did GREAT until the 24th, I didn't go crazy but I was definitley off plan. The 3 weeks leading up to the 25th are the WORST for me so even though I cheated I'm proud I made it through the daily lunches out & constant parade of cookies, candies, chocolates, wine & spirits that goes on in my work place - I think last year I put on 11 lbs before Christmas. Happy New Year everyone!! I wish you all great sucsess

I definitely overindulged, but only on "legal" foods. I also think I may have converted a curious relative or two! Many "Oooh, what's that?" instances, and talking with people about Atkins and other WOE's (my cousin is doing really well on WW) was a really positive experience. It was great, I felt no hesitation in discussing my dietary choices, and everyone appreciated everyone else for who they were, not what they were eating. Who'da thunk it?
