As much as I respect 2Big's knowledge, I disagree about cocoa. I used to take for granted the fact that it's a spice... but the spices I can think of are stuff that was simply dried and ground. This is not the case for cocoa powder, which is why I do not consider cocoa to be a spice.

In any case, chocolate is a problem food for many... whether it's hot chocolate or baker's chocolate. My advice is that people avoid it during Induction. Dr. Atkins wanted us to use Induction to break our addiction to chocolate (among other "goodies").

cocoa powder is considered a spice by the Atkins books written while Dr Atkins was alive
Could you please back this up with references?

You can also try 'lemon water' which is hot water + fresh lemon juice + sweetner if u need it. great cleansing kind of drink and recommended for first thing in the AM before you eat anything else.

Oh, you can also sprinkle a dash of cinnamon or cocoa powder (baking kind) on your coffee/decaf, even add a tiny amount of vanilla extract just for a treat.

Hot lemon water is great for keeping you "regular." That cup in the morning often gets things moving.

In addition to lemon tea, ginger tea or cinnamon tea is good too. The bonus with cinnamon tea is that it is naturally sweet (and helps control blood sugar). I just toss cinnamon sticks into a pot with water, bring it to a boil and simmer them for about 15 minutes (makes the house smell good too!) Don't add cream to the cinnamon tea, because it loses the natural sweetness

Beef broth with a dash of tabasco is nice.

                        Oh, I did, didn't I . LOL.
I love the idea of hot lemon also. I use to drink hot lemonade when I had a cold, but thats to much lemon for induction..

I drink green tea with lemon which tastes nice just as it is. Is supposed to be an aid in weight loss too=)

I never thought about sipping on broth either--- good idea!!!! I miss having "soup" so easily from a can as I don't have time to make my own. I think the broth would help this, my favorite part about soup is the sipping

soup is easy and takes maybe a half hour....take broth, add whatever type of meat you want (or leave it out), add vegetables and cook until everything is tender.....I love soup and have it often because it's easy.
