  • Gluten Intolerance

Thanks for all of your support in my previous post about falling off the wagon. I am a problem solver by nature, so I am trying to solve this "feeling like crap" thing.

In the three weeks that I have been more liberal with my carb/sugar intake, I have noticed several dramatic changes:
    1) I am fatigued all the time; I can hardly make it past 9:00 p.m. almost every night
    2) I put on weight quickly and easily
    3) "The" drive is non existent
    4) I cramp very easily while lifting weights
    5) I feel depressed most of the time

These are symptoms of gluten intolerance. I know there are varying degrees of severity, but I am thinking that I should get checked.

Does anyone reading this have experience with gluten intolerance. Going on Atkins means eliminating gluten, so my hypothesis is that the negative changes are the result of re-introducing carbs into my diet. And, yes, I have had these symptoms throughout my life, and I spent most of my adult life consuming carbs regularly.

    Re: Gluten Intolerance

Yep yep I had pretty much stop eating outside of the home because as soon as I ate any type of bad carb within minutes I had to run..it took over my life. Once I started atkins my problem stop, If for some reason without my knowledge I ate something with it I totally know i messed up because my body will tell me! so I went to the doctor and after all the tests I was told I had celiac disease which is glutten intolerance..not the same as wheat intolerance they are two different so you gotta figure out which one is the one causing you troubles.
    highest 230 ---- started atkins------current 175 lbs
    July 2009 ---------12/20/2009 ---------03/18/2010
    <------------------>

I started atkins in late november but every other week just sort of fell off the wagon and was not working out..late december I started to really follow it and added the gym from november to december I only lost like 7 lbs not following it right..from december to march 18 I lost 50 lbs give or take depending what mood my scale is on lol.

      Re: Gluten Intolerance

I have seen many posts across the lowcarb boards from people for whom doing Atkins has demonstrated that their body has a problem with consuming grains. some find they are diagnosed celiac, and some not - but all report a definite lessening of uncomfortable symptoms when they leave grains out of their menus.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I look at it this way, it doesn't matter how the jackass fell in the ditch, the task at hand is to get 'im out! I don't know if I'm gluten intolerant or celiac or whatever. I know Atkins works for me. I don't experience insulin shocks and crashes. I don't experience acid reflux. I don't experience depression. I don't experience tingling in my extremities. I don't experience weight gain, on the contrary I lose weight. I don't experience cravings if I don't screw around with sugar-free "treats". Just a lot that doesn't happen, and that's a real good thing.

If it works, why fix it??
