  • How long did it take to lose inches?

Hello everyone. I am new to Atkins and had a question for everyone that has been successful on it.

I have read up on this diet and it seems a lot of the weight dropped is water and not necessarily fat. Following induction to a "T", how long did it take for you to see results from the diet, inches wise? I'm not looking for fast results, but sustainable and steady results based on strong adherence to the diet itself.

I wanted to try to this diet because I believe I can do well with a diet with restrictions. I always felt hungry on a low calorie diet and am willing to try a diet that does not count calories, only carbs.

That might be true of the first few days, but it's not true of the whole weightloss process.

Are you reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

I did read the book and it was amazing. I figured it was worth 2 weeks to give it a shot and see any kind of results. I think I would do really well because of the vegetables and meats allowed are my favorites and found a website with tons of induction friendly recipes.

Some people lose very little to start - but then start losing during OWL.

          FYI.

I like Atkins for similar reasons, I think...

Hi, I started to notice the clothes loosen up almost right away. I think a tight pair of jeans are the best way to see how much you have lost.

Welcome to our ADBB family, DW

I am glad you are thinking of results like losing inches rather than scales weight too Make sure you have taken measurements so you have some point of referenc in the future. Having a set of too-tight clothes is also a good incentive and living proof to show when you are becoming a loser!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: How did it take to lose inches?

Personally, I started losing inches before I even saw the scale move. In the past 2 weeks, I've lost 2" (1" each week) from each area of my body -chest, waist, hips, thigh. Despite this, I've only lost 2 lbs.

But as the others have said, everyone is different

Re: How did it take to lose inches?

I must have lost some fat...I've lost 31 inches from my waist (10.75"), arms (4.25", 4") and thighs (6.5", 5.5") since April. That would be a lot of water weight! I lost 2.5 inches in the first 2 weeks. I exercised from day 1, but I count that as part of the diet, since Dr. Atkins said exercise is non-negotiable.
