  • HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

My sister is coming to visit and she has offered to babysit so hubby and I can go out on a date. I wanted to go to the movies, but he INSISTS that we go out to eat (it's been a few weeks - I think he's going through withdrawal!).

Anyway, I figured that Red Lobster would be my safest bet. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out what exactly I can eat. I'm looking at their nutrition info, and I'm EXTREMELY disturbed by the carb count on everything. It looks like my only options are lobster, crab legs and shrimp scampi (which would be fine, but I don't think I can get that as a whole meal).

Also - the caesar salad - site says it's 13g of carbs, but I'm assuming that is including the croutons. How do I figure out what carb count is WITHOUT croutons?

Does anyone here ever eat at Red Lobster and have any suggestions as to what I can eat? I'm on OWL rung 1, so I'm limited to 25g of carbs a day... of course, that isn't all at one meal, either.

I never thought that eating out could be this stressful!

Um, I'd eat crab until I passed out, but that's just me.

order your seafood steamed or broiled without any seasonings nor breading.

tell them no biscuits on the table!!!! so you are not tempted.

they make the salads fresh so tell your waiter no croutons and you will be fine. save some cheese for the salad though cause it comes with that unless you say no.

the butter isn't 100% butter neither so if you have a soy allergy don't use it.

refuse to even look at the sessert menu
they have steamed veggies you can order.

Avoid the croutons, eat the salad, ask for the dressing on the side or ask for oil and vinegar.

Avoid the "butter sauce", because that has some kind of thickener in it.

Stick with the crab legs and the lobster.

oh and the wood grilled carb counts include the broccoli so subtract 6 from the carb total for it

Hmmmm....I'm wrong about the melted butter. It looks like they made it gluten-free.

There's some other good info in that link that you can use to help plan your Atkins meal.

Re: HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I'm feeling a lot less stressed now. I think I might just splurge and have lobster or crab legs. Mmmm...

I don't trust restaurant salad dressing, so I think I'll bring my own in my purse. LOL

I'm just going to write down a list of all the foods they have that are <10 g of carbs and bring it with me so I can just choose from what I feel like eating.

they have something called the lighthouse menu planner that will let you plan your meal and give you total nutrtion for the whole thing. Just remember if you get wood grilled it has the veggie already counted so don't add a side of broccolli

Re: HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

I'll come back and report what I had for dinner. I now have a list of all reasonably "priced" (carb count, that is!) foods in my purse ready for tonight!

The only difficult thing will be those rolls... my hubby is NOT willing to sacrifice them (he stopped atkins on day 6, so he wants to eat them). I told him as long as he doesn't have anything sweet in front of me, I'll be fine.

Re: HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

I ate at Red Lobster last month and was pleasantly surprised at how many Atkins friendly choices there were. I had the wood grilled salmon with broccoli and a lobster tail and it was delicious and didn't seem to give me any stalls or problems. I asked to have real butter with the lobster and they told me they do serve real butter and it certainly tasted like it was. The only thing was they did not have heavy cream for the coffee, only half and half.

I'm not saying they don't use "100% real butter", just keep in mind that many people call many things "butter" ... when in fact, it's not.
