Re: HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

If you are going there straight from home a container with butter in it would keep fresh long enough
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I asked to have real butter with the lobster and they told me they do serve real butter and it certainly tasted like it was. The only thing was they did not have heavy cream for the coffee, only half and half.
that is interesting because my waiter said the same thing but I ask him to check in the kitchen to be sure it was 100% buter and he came back and said sorry its a blend but it looks like butter.

Re: HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

The nutrition information on the site lists "100% Pure Melted Butter" in their Dipping Sauces section, but... it says it has 2g of carbs?

According to fitday, 1 TBSP of butter has .0085g of carbs. if I match up the calorie content from Fitday to the website, it looks like the "serving" of butter at Red Lobster is about 3.5 TBSP, which, according to Fitday would be .02975g of carbs.

But the site does claim that it is 100% real butter. It could just be a minor discrepency... we are dealing with small amounts, here.

I'll make sure that whatever I have is actuall "100% pure melted butter"

If they use 100% real butter, they can label it as such. However, that doesn't mean they didn't add cornstarch or xanthum gum or some other stuff to that 100% real butter.

A curse word comes to mine, but I don't want to offend anyone, so I will simply say this:

            Jerks...

There should be laws about this sort of thing!

Re: HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

I ended up going last night and I did order the grilled lobster shrimp and scallops with salad and broccoli. It was very good and the butter did look and taste like real butter (and the waitress said it was, but we know you can't always trust what they say) It had that cloudy white stuff that you get when you melt butter (I think it's from the milk solids) . When I ate at Ruby Tuesday a while ago (and didn't eat their funky butter) it was clear yellow.

Anyway, it's probably a gamble, but for the amout I ate and my stage of the game, I decided to eat it. I think any time you eat out you are taking a gamble that you'll be eating something less than Atkins perfect, these restaurants are so sneaky with cheap "fake" ingredients. My opinion is that in the early stages (especially on Induction) it's really best to prepare all of your own foods. It won't always happen and we do sometimes eat things we didn't intend to because we think somethings OK and it's not, but what can you do but make the best choices you can and keep going.

OP...I hope you enjoyed your dinner. let us know what you ate and how it was.

Re: HELP! Going to Red Lobster!!!

Well, I ended up going with the "Ultimate Feast". Typically, it consists of a lobster tail, crab legs, shrimp scampi and fried shrimp. I had them substitute more shrimp scampi for the fried shrimp. For my side, I had broccoli (even though the server offered nothing but potatoes and french fries!)

I also asked about the butter. She said it was just regular blocks of butter melted down. They may have just been off on their carb count - or the server lied. But, I maybe used about half of the cup of butter, which they claim is 2g of carbs, so even then, not so bad.

                So:

                Lobster tail: 0 carbs
                Crab legs: 0 carbs
Shrimp scampi (x2): 3 carbs (total)
                Butter: 1 carb
                Broccoli: 6 carbs

10 g of carbs, total! Not bad!

woo hoo on staying on plan and not eating those dangerous evil biscuits.

One word of caution though. you had 40% or more of your allowed carbs at one meal since you are rung 1 of OWL and that is 25 max allowed.

we want to space out our carbs through out the day so we don't bolus them at a meal. if you snack during the day aim for 25-30% of your total at each meal and then you have the other 10-25% to divid up with your snacks. if you are a grazer then you want to have about 15% at each meal. This will keep your blood sugar stable and avoid any cravings from low or spiked blood sugars.

Oh, don't worry. I typically split up my veggies during the day. I just shifted things around that day for the special occassion.

And I forgot to change my status - I'm actually on Rung 2.
