    Re: cupcakes & beer

    >>I need support>>

Do you need support to stay on plan?

Do you need support to eat off plan?

    Or do you need enabling?

Maybe you should define exactly how you define "support" ... it makes it easier for the rest of us.

Me ... I'm ever so grateful that I had a group of women who didn't enable me and who urged me to stay on plan ... regardless of the "situation" (excuse).

I can only with that for you, JaxMama.

You've got that kind of support from lots of people here ... I hope you accept it.

    I hope you redefine "support".

                Re: cupcakes & beer

The weigh in showed 144.60 today. Friday I weighed 144.40 (same time between 7 am and 8 am). Back on track and already in ketosis. I can tell by the amount of water I am drinking already 51 ounces this morning.

Will be good until 2/14 and then I will be drinking low carb alcohol with my hubby for v-day and our 3 year anniversary celebration. Hopefully by then I will be off induction. We will see since I can't get my net carbs under 20 a day. But not a bad for being 6 days in and almost down 3 lbs (even with a "bad" day).

Best of luck to everyone and keep up the great work!

                  Re: cupcakes & beer

You know those "bad days" cost you about a week of fat burning, right?

And why do you think you'll still be on Induction on 2/14?

With so little to lose you should only stay on Induction for 2 weeks.

And ... if you're not getting your net carbs under 20 per day (without cupcakes and beer even), then you're not really doing Induction anyway.

Which is no problem ... it's quite possible to start in OWL with so little to lose.

                    Re: cupcakes & beer

Good for you!! I know that there are some people on the board who cannot go back once they take that first bite, but as long as you're back on track today, and continue on, then I personally see no harm. And it sounds like you already know what one of the consequences is (knocking yourself out of ketosis,) and setting yourself back a bit. I think you have a healthy attitude about it because you decided to not get all worked up over going off plan for a day. Beating yourself up is where I think many people get into trouble, because it can lead to guilt, and with that can come overeating and indulging in the wrong kinds of foods to make yourself feel better. And then worse... and then better... and then worse...

I myself am allowing a cheat day or 2 a month. Now, when I say "cheat day," I certainly don't mean eating anything and everything I want in sight. I eat a few things that I enjoy eating, that have nothing to do with Atkins, and that's that. I don't go overboard, or binge eat, or completely make myself sick from gorging on too much food. Some people do, but I'm not one of them. I can see how using this as a way to cheat can really backfire, and undo work that's already been done. I don't have a problem getting "back to business" afterward. I actually find that my body responds positively the next week, and the scale seems to be happy with me. This approach doesn't work for everyone, but for those of us who can do it successfully, keep on keepin' on!

                      Re: cupcakes & beer

Thanks lillistar for the support. Gal 08, I know it "cost" me and that is why I will have to be on my induction until 2/14. That was two weeks from yesterday. I do count my carbs but unfortunetly I can't get below 20, more like 25 is my number. And really, is 5 grams after cutting 100-200 grams of carbs not going to help me lose weight? I already have a headache like I did last week at this time, very thirsty, and muscle tenderness. I don't have all the signs of ketosis but I sure do have some. It takes my body 24 hours to convert and I ate extreme low carb yesterday and today. I will know more tomorrow when I weigh myself to see if it will cost me a week. If so, I will def know not to do it again so I can get past the induction stage.

Again, lots of support to everyone out there!

                        Good luck with your program.

From somebody that has been on & off more than once, I can tell you first hand that small cheat snack turns into a cheat day before you know it, it becomes a cheat week which of coarse turns into cheat months, then without realizing it, you've been off of the plan for so long the weight starts rocketing skyward like a spaceship.

I don't think anyone here was being negative. Just trying to make you aware of what has occurred to a zillion folks before you who thought it was O.K. to a have small cheat...

Why are you restarting? Why not just continue on ... you shouldn't restart Induction every time you decide to go off plan.

                          >>I do count my carbs but unfortunetly I can't get below 20,>>

                          Why not?

                          >>. I will know more tomorrow when I weigh myself to see if it will cost me a week.>>

It's not just about the scale.

It's simple biology ... your cupcakes and beer choice took you out of ketosis. So, you have to get back in to ketosis. You have to switch your body back in to fat burning.

                          That takes time.

So ... until that happens, you're not burning fat for energy like you should.

Most people find that those kind of choices cost them about a week ... regardless of what the scale reports.

                          >>I ate extreme low carb yesterday and today.>>

That doesn't make up for it.

And ... what you're doing is yanking your metabolism around ... it doesn't know if it's feast or famine. The more you repeat that cycle the more your body will suffer the damage.

could you site some studies supporting that?

the human body will not have stored enough energy from her cupcake and beer to even supply enough energy to last one day let alone a weeks worth, so I'd really like to see those supporting studies.

Am I upset or regretful? NOPE! Back on my healthy diet today and started with a two egg omelet with 1 oz cheese. The scale went down a tad I think. Do I know I am out of ketosis? Yep and I know by tomorrow I will be back in it, my body takes 1 day on 30 grams or less to get back into gear.

It's ok to take a break one day and celebrate life without over doing in, knowing the next day I will be back on track.

i love the fact I had enough will power to know today I wouldn't be regretful and excited I could do it and still be happy.

                                Re: cupcakes & beer

My whole point of talking about what I did is because NO ONE is perfect at any diet and EVERYONE has a hiccup now and then. But it's being accountable for what happened and your actions and getting back on the wagon (of whatever diet or lifestyle you plan to be on). How did everyone get to this forum to lose weight? After trying and failing multiple times. So for me to put my heart out here for what I did should not be chastised. For everyone of you that did a diet before and had a bad day and quit for good? I didn't quit my diet and it's not going to take me a week to get back because I didn't gain my 3 lbs back that I had lost the 4 days prior. Today was my 7th day.

I would never advise someone new to Atkins to do what I did. But it's something I needed to get through to show myself I can do it this time.

If the scale goes up tomorrow I will let everyone know so they can say "I told you so." And I won't let that stop me either!

Thanks to those who understand, sometimes we need a challenge to get our mental state right....especially to do Atkins or any extreme lifestyle change diet.
