    1. When Counting Carbs sometimes the label states completly different from what my carb counter does - is it better to work of the label or the books carb counter.
    2. How do you deduct fibre from the carb count if the fibre is actually higher than the carbs?
    3. If the label states - of which sugars = , does this mean i can have this product or does this mean its not allowed as it has sugar in it.

Where in the world are you? US?

    2. How do you deduct fibre from the carb count if the fibre is actually higher than the carbs?
    So... not US, I assume.

On European labels, the carbs listed are already net carbs. Fiber is listed separately.

    3. If the label states - of which sugars = , does this mean i can have this product or does this mean its not allowed as it has sugar in it.
Some foods have naturally occurring sugar. Examples are tomatoes or cheese... both allowed during Induction.

The sugar you need to watch for is added sugar. For this you'll need to read the list of ingredients.

The carb counts on the label are "completely different" probably because they are net carbs.

But if the net carbs listed on the label are indeed very different from what is listed in the USDA database (for the USDA database, you need to subtract the fiber), then I usually go with the label.

        Re: Label Dilema

im in the uk - some labels in uk say eg Carb Per 100 g = 1.5 Fibre 2.2
which would mean the carbs are free - wouldnt it

so to be clear if label says of which sugar thats ok as long as ingredients dont state sugar.

Back to question 1 . useing the label is better

You don't subtract fiber if you're in the UK.

On that label, the carbs (net) are 1.5.

          >>useing the label is better>>

Perhaps in the UK, but not in the US.

And it's always a good idea to check against a trust carb counter.

            No.

It means the product has 1.5 net carbs and 2.2 g of fiber. So you count 1.5.

so to be clear if label says of which sugar thats ok as long as ingredients dont state sugar.
Yes... there are also some exceptions, like cured meats (most will have sugar) or store-bought mayo (which also has some tiny amount of added sugar).

Most people don't have an issue with mayo.

            Processed meat should be avoided.

Back to question 1 . useing the label is better
If you are in the UK, the label is typically accurate.

Ps Carb Counters are not accurate typical eg - atkins book says 55 g mushroom 1.0 Pt where as the label says 100 g 0.5

                  Different labeling laws.

                  >>Carb Counters are not accurate typical>>

I would use the USDA site before the Atkins book.

                            Re: Label Dilema

You have come across the main problem with trying to measure foods by volume. If you cut the same amount of mushrooms into large pieces, they will measure more than if you cut them into very small pieces. There are 2 ways to overcome this.

The first is to put some water in a large measuring cup and then add your veggies. The difference in water levels is the amount of veggies you added.

The other way is to weigh the veggies. In the "Atkins Phases FAQs" forum there is a table that shows the weights of Induction veggies per cup measure. (I think there is another reference also, but I can't find it right now.) These equivalents are taken from the USDA database.

i dont understand the cups rule as we in the uk dont work by that method, am i right to assume you take your size cup and fill it with as many acceptable salad & veg as it will hold - three times ie three cups
