Re: Oh, For Crying Out loud...

    Thanks, everyone!

Don't worry, if I end up with hyperemesis again, I will certainly eat whatever will stay down!

I went to the market today and bought some peanut butter, and some beans (DH has been DYING for me to make my chili!). I also bought some whole grain flax bread and some cream cheese - one of my favorite first trimester snacks with my daughter.

My goal during pregnancy will be to gain as little weight as possible. If things go well with breastfeeding (they went HORRIBLY wrong last time), I plan on doing it for at least 2 years, so I may be off of the weight-loss train for 3 years or so (unless I lose weight from nursing... that would be awesome!)

As the day has gone on, I'm feeling much better about this whole thing. I was really freaked out and upset this morning. I really wanted to lose more weight before getting pregnant again. But, this baby is a gift from God, so I'm going to be happy.

The annoying part is totally reworking my entire way of life - diet, exercise and sleep!!! I was so comfy in everything before!

          Congrats on your pregnancy!
Each pregnancy is different so there is a strong possibility that you may not experience the same or any hyperemesis. My 2nd pregnancy I had 1 day of nausea! I was so freaked about the hyperemesis I didn't get pregnant for 4 years!!
          Good luck.

Re breastfeeding - it took six weeks for my first daughter to start nursing and four weeks for my second daughter. It can be insanely difficult or a cinch, depending on various factors. Remember to go easy on yourself about that too.

Congratulations on your good news, Bekki!!

As 2big suggested, you could compare your initial 14 days induction loss to the chart in Chapter 13 to see what your metabolic resistance to weightloss was and then look at the other chart in Chapter 17 to get some idea of what your likely CCLM could be and plan your menus to those carb levels using maintenance-style food choices.

                      Congrats on your news.

And from someone who has tried everything to get pregnant for 9 years only to fail and go into huge debt, gaining weight from being pregnant or having to go on Atkins maintenance is the last thing I'd complain about. It's all about perspective.

Just do what you need to do to make sure you and the baby are healthy.

Re: Oh, For Crying Out loud...

2big and elizellen - Thanks for that idea! My Induction weight loss was 15 lbs - so I would say definitely low metabolic resistance.

I talked to my midwife about it and she basically suggested doing what I'm currently doing, but adding some starchy veggies like sweet potatoes and the like.

I'm avoiduing fruit for now because I have no desire to taste anything sweet - and I want to stay that way as long as possible! LOL

SMKelly - I'm sorry you've had such a rough time. Believe me, I am 100% grateful for this pregnancy. I know what it is like to want a child and not be able to have one - I have suffered three miscarriages and 1 year of infertility after I lost my daughter at 15 weeks. The last thing I want to do is complain.

It's not the timing I would have chosen, but I am still happy. I will focus on being healthy for this baby, and for myself. Weight loss can definitely wait.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm trying to lose weight so I can be cute enough that someone will want to have a baby with me. So it sounds like you've reached a goal, when I read it.
