Well I would sure hope so but once my body gets around the 150's it seems to shut the weightloss down even though that is still way over weight for me (4'11"). I wouldnt' be surprised if I only lost a 1lb or so a week. Crossing fingers I'm wrong though, we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, damn, that's depressing! I want to lose 40. SW-178 (gross!) GW-138. I guess I've got a while, huh?? What exactly is "metabolically resistant" and how do you know if you are?

Metabolic restistance basically means that your metabolism doesn't work as well as it should and it's hard for your body to lose the weight. There is a chart in the book to use to determine if you are resistant or not. I fall between the low-average range. DH falls in the low range (lower is better).

But that is if I use the 20-50lbs to lose chart. If you go by my start weight to what is an ideal weight for my body structure, I could also use the 50+ chart which would mean I'm high resistance.

Then you get into the fat fast, extended inductions etc. In the book Dr. Atkins actually says to consider staying in induction longer, that it doesn't have to be just 2 weeks. Unless you are getting bored with the food, don't have much to lose etc, there's a little 4 question test to take. So far it looks like induction is where I should stay.

The fat fast I haven't decided on. It seems to be pretty extreme.

You may lose that 40 lbs very quickly. Each person is different. I've seen some amazing results posted on here. Are you done with induction yet? How much did you lose in your 14 days? That will determine your level of resistance.

Re: Induction Diet for 1 year

            Poobears,
I just started on Monday. As in day before yesterday. I was already in ketosis yesterday at noon (which was only day 2), so I thought that was a pretty good sign! I'm only going to weigh once a week because I get really discouraged when I weigh obsessively! You know how we fluctuate a good bit naturally.

Re: Induction Diet for 1 year

I did Atkins with the blessing and care of my physician. I continued on Induction and extended induction for 9 months. My starting weight was nearly 500 pounds. After 9 months, I moved to OWL. I continued to lose weight on OWL. I took the rungs slowly and experimented with different foods along the way determining my CCL before moving to Pre-Maintenance and then onto Maintenance.

As poobears said, after your 14 days induction take a look at the chart in DANDR to establish your resistance to weightloss before deciding if you are one of the few people who need to stay on induction longer.

But remember that induction is only the initial phase of Atkins.

The main phase is OWL (ongoing weight loss) where you will discover if there are any foods your body does not tolerate as well as how many carbs you can eat and still lose weight.

OWL is much easier to do if you are still a long way away from your goal weight, as the best way of knowing if you have exceeded your CCLL (critical carb level for losing) is that your weightloss slows down.

If however you leave OWL till you are near your goal weight your losses will already have slowed, so you can only use the blood sugar symptoms in DANDR to guess if the carb levels or new food is affecting you.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
