  • Made a Pretty Good Smoothie/Milkshake...

    Thought I'd share.

1 5.3 oz Oikos Plain organic Greek Yogurt (6g. net carbs)
1 cup almond milk (1 net carb)
1/2 c. Frozen Dole Raspberries, (8 net carbs)

Blend in Freezer, split in two add splenda if you think you need it.

Let me know what you think.

that sounds wonderful. I went to Trader Joes today and stocked up on Yogurt. I have move to OWL 2 but moving up fast as I love yogurt.

Do the Dole Raspberries have sugar? I found some organic ones that didn't but I have never need the Dole ones. The organic were expensive

I got the no sugar added ones. Also I got to thinking that if I added some ice to the mixture it might thicken it up a bit. Bare in mind that this recipe makes two servings of app. 8 oz a piece. It is kind of thin. I'm working on it. I don't recommend it often. I plan to use it if I'm getting one of those cravings.

        Sounds good, Shari

BTW your 'Atkins phase' info still reads 'OWL rung 3'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Made a Pretty Good Smoothie/Milkshake...

Remember that on OWL you are limited to 5 net carbs of the items you are eating. When you get to premaintenance you can use more.
Where are you on your journey?
We are all going to be different on this but for me I need more fat to make my shakes not give me a sugar buzz so I usually add some cream for that purpose. I may also throw in some guar gum in mine if I think it goes to thin.

Are you sure those 8 are net carbs and not total carbs? It sounds too high to me.

OK. The reason why I asked is because I've found two different carb counts for Dole frozen raspberries:

Calories in Dole Frozen Raspberries - Nutrition Facts, and Healthy Alternatives | LIVESTRONG.COM

Raspberry Carbohydrate Counts - Carb Counts and Health Benefits of Raspberries

As you can see, none of them is 8 net carbs per 1/2 cup. One is 8 carbs per 1/2 cup though.

I do know how to figure net carbs
I didn't say you don't. I only asked if you are sure it's 8 net.

                  I'm not on owl.
Are you not? Or is that a typo?

To change it to whatever phase you are at you need to select 'User CP' at the top of the page then chose 'Edit Details' and scroll down to the section which lets you choose your Atkins phase
Select the correct one from the dropdown menu, then go down to the bottom of the page and save the changes.

Re: Made a Pretty Good Smoothie/Milkshake...

Georgiana I think my response came off a bit too harsh. I didn't realize until now. Sometimes I hate this type of communication because the tone doesn't always translate correctly. I was actually laughing when I wrote it but it sounded snotty didn't it? I'm always afriad if I put smily's ect. that I come across looking foolish. Anyhow sorry about that. This particular package said the 8 net carbs. I wonder why there are two different ones? I actually didn't want too many carbs so I split the recipe in half.

I've been toying around with the idea of adding all natural raspberry flavoring and vanilla too. I had to search among the varieties for one that didn't have corn syrup in it. When I make it again I'll have to let you all know how it goes. I've also found Diet Cranberry grape juice with only 2 carbs per 8 oz. maybe if I froze some of that and added it to the recipe it would add something to the smoothie.

It is a work in progress! LOL
