A lot of us are not great cooks...just read recipes, follow the directions, and you are good to go!!! Like following Mapquest. lOL

      VEGGIE HELP-

Go to this journal, and click on her blog link in her siggy. Then navigate around until you find her 11 in 3 series.

      http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ournal-14.html

Or try this link- you are looking for her 11 in 3 series...It shows how to get 11g of carbs in 3 cups. Scroll thru menu 1, menu 2, etc. She did a lot of work putting this together:

        Re: how am I doing?

        >>I use Ortega brand taco seasoning. I>>

I suspect sugar is one of the first two or 3 ingredients.

        >>I wasn't aware there was a homemade taco seasoning recipe.>>

This is the one I use:

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

        >> I could also use some suggestions on how to get my veggies where they should be. Keep in mind I am a horrible cook.>>

You can learn to cook. We all did.

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Recipes

Atkins Food and Recipes - Atkins Diet

        >> guess I need to update my profile because I guess I should move up the rungs til I am allowed nuts and seeds.>>

You need to get Rung 1 down first!

Also, you shouldn't have more than 1 serving of nuts/seeds in a day. They're not a substitute for other food.

So if you already have had one serving, then you don't add an ounce of macadamias "just because".

        >>I can't give them up they are too good.>>

That's a red flag that they could be a problem food for you.

My suggestion would be to drop the nuts and seeds, get more vegetables ... and get your eating on target for OWL Rung 1.

          Re: how am I doing?

if you are feeling tired depressed and losing your hair I'd suggest you check and see if you are defieincet in any vits and/or minerals in the fitday reports as there are several reasons to feel the way you are and one is not eating enough on your atkins. Once you know that isn't the reason then you should go see your doc to rule out the other reasons.

              Re: how am I doing?

Here is a more detailed menu:
breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs (3 carbs)
              bacon (0 carbs)
              cojack cheese (2 carbs)

              lunch: taco salad
              hamburger 1 c. (2 carbs)
              lettuce 2 c. (1 carb)
              cojack cheese 1/3 c. (1 carb)
              taco sauce 1/4 c. (6 carbs)

              dinner: salad
              4 c. romaine lettuce (0 carbs)
              cheese 1/4 c. (1 carb)
2 hard boiled eggs (2 carbs)
              sunflower seeds 1/4 c. (5 carbs)
pepperoni 8 sm. slices (1 carb)
bacon bits 1 tbsp (0 carbs) I use real bacon bits not imitation
              Italian dressing 1/3 c. (6 carbs)

This carb count is varying a bit from the one I posted before because I just found my papers from when I was making my menu. when I made my menu I went online and measured all my food to get an accurate count of my carbs.

                3 scrambled eggs (3 carbs)
Do you add something to them, other than eggs and oil/butter? A large egg has 0.39 net carbs.

2 hard boiled eggs (2 carbs)
Again, the net carbs are not correct.

                cojack cheese (2 carbs)
You said this is 1/8 cup, shredded? There's no way it has 2 net carbs!

                bacon (0 carbs)
Is sugar (for e.g., dextrose) listed among the ingredients?

                hamburger 1 c. (2 carbs)
Where are the carbs coming from?

                lettuce 2 c. (1 carb)
                Is this iceberg lettuce?

                cojack cheese 1/3 c. (1 carb)
If 1/3 cup has 1 net carb, how can 1/8 cup have 2?

                taco sauce 1/4 c. (6 carbs)
Way to many carbs to waste on sauce!

                4 c. romaine lettuce (0 carbs)
4 cups of romaine lettuce do not have 0 net carbs. As Atkinsgal08 wrote:

"2 cups of romaine, shredded is 1.09 net carbs"

                Italian dressing 1/3 c. (6 carbs)
Again too many carbs used on dressing.

What source are you using for the carb counts? I would suggest you use FitDay:

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

                or the USDA database:

Don't forget to subtract fiber from carbohydrates to get net carbs.

More than half of your net carbs should come from vegetables. By undereating your vegetables, you are missing a lot of nutrients, and this can interfere with your weight loss and with your overall health.

I would ditch the sunflower seeds, add more vegetables and do OWL properly.

Could you list all the ingredients?

Also the ingredients in the sauces?

Why do you think that's acceptable?

If you made your own, there wouldn't be any sugar.

                    >> sunflower seeds 1/4 c. (5 carbs)>>

You're not on the correct OWL rung for nuts/seeds, right?

Ok.....my carb counts on eggs are wrong.

3 eggs = 1.17 carbs (Better that I overstated than understated the carb count

And 2 hardboiled eggs have .78 carbs
                          Got it

cheese should be 1/3 c. which equals 1 carb
I was typing on my itty bitty iPod keyboard at work earlier and it is easy to mistype on that darn thing

Bacon ingredients: Water, salt, sugar, sodium phosphates, sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrate

Carbs from the hamburger are coming from the taco seasoning

Yes it is 2 c. of iceburg lettuce at lunch that I use
***ok I just looked at my preshredded iceburg lettuce package........it says 3oz. of lettuce has 3 carbs......1 gram of fiber and 2 grams of sugar. Do they add sugar to lettuce or is it natural?

I also made a mistake on my romaine letuce count I guess 4 cups equals 2.18 carbs. sorry

I will definetly ditch the sunflower seeds though thanks

Ortega taco seasoning ingredients: yellow corn flour, salt, maltodextrin, paprika, spices, modified cornstarch, sugar, garlic powder, citric acid, autolyzed yeast extract, natural flavor, caramel color

Ortega taco sauce ingredients: tomato puree (water, tomato paste), water, corn syrup, distilled vinegar, salt, modified cornstarch, spices, paprika, citric acid, green chili powder, onion powder

Whew I hoped I answered all your questions Georgiana. I am sure you can see some thing I need to change. Let me know.

I never said it was acceptable with having sugar as the 7th ingredient. Lighten up. You said you were certain it was the second or third ingredient. I was just letting you know that it wasn't the second or third ingredient, it was the seventh. I am obviously not as experiences as you are with this diet. But I am learning. I thought that is what this forum is for.
                          Thanks

                            >>Do they add sugar to lettuce or is it natural?>>

                            It's natural.

                            >>Ortega taco seasoning ingredients: yellow corn flour, salt, maltodextrin, paprika, spices, modified cornstarch, sugar, garlic powder, citric acid, autolyzed yeast extract, natural flavor, caramel color
                            >>

Yellow corn flour isn't an Induction food.

Maltodextrin is a sugar, so I was correct that "sugar" was one of the first 3 ingredients. Along with the actual sugar and the caramel color, which is sugar, too.

Homemade would be much cheaper, easier, and tastier.

                            >> Ortega taco sauce ingredients: tomato puree (water, tomato paste), water, corn syrup, >>

                            Corn syrup isn't allowed.

There are brands of salsa that don't have added sugar ... I use Pace.

you can use hot sauce to make your food hot and spicey and keep the carbs low.

don't forget salsa counts as part of your veggies during induction

Oh and if you want Dr Atkins results then you need to count your cheese as one ounce is 1 gram of carbs no matter what the package or fitday says.
