hi would drinking coffee stall me ,? before xmas i was down to 98kg after over induldging i went up to 102kg + been back on induction now middle of 3rd week and i did weigh 100kg but last couple of days weighed 102kg again im now ading 2 x 3 mile runs into my busy exercise week ive really got a couple of questions should i now move up the rungs even though induction hasnt started my weight going down again and could the reason my weight isnt moving be down to the extra coffe i seem to be drinking? i may drink about 4 to 5 cups of black coffee a day at work and when im at home i tend to have a cup of coffee with cream in the morning and in the evening couple of cups of tea with half teaspoon of cream , im still drinking 3 litres of water a day too

Jake, did you have your body fat percentage measured?

    Are you losing inches?

Your added exercise could cause water retention.

would drinking coffee stall me ,?
Yes, caffeine is one of the possible causes for a stall, listed in Chapter 15 of your copy of DANDR 2002.

should i now move up the rungs
I would move to OWL and add more vegetables.

no i didnt have body fat measured ,ill start adding more veg then move up the rungs and just see how i go, im feeling pretty good even though id id like to see it on the scales , if it is water retention will that pass once my body gets used to the extra exercise im doing ? it would be nice for the weight to come down as my exercise week is quite full now this is my week now and

monday morning 3 mile run 20 mins cross trainer , after work swim 50 lenghts

      tuesday karate
wednesday 3 mile run plus light weights
      thursday weights
      friday karate
      saturday weights
      sunday rest

in the last month i added the swimming and the last 2 weeks added the 3 mile run twice a week

Could be the cream though, that also stalls.

=] Yeah, maybe try only like 3 cups of coffee as well.
            That should help things.

              Re: coffee/stall

Hi Jake, since coffee acts as a diuretic some folks recommend that you drink your 8 cup minimum and an additional cup to offset each cup of coffee or tea you drink. That being the case, maybe you need to be drinking more water to compensate for those cups. Or switch to decaf for some or all of them.

                Re: coffee/stall

As much as I love coffee, that does seem like a lot. I drink one cup in the morning, one in the afternoon and occasionally one in between there (which I try to make decaf). Is not a caffeine thing for me, it is the coffee...the taste, having something hot to drink..I it.

Maybe you can try cutting back on the coffee and see what that does for you. Try decaf for one cup maybe and try cutting out another cup.

                Good luck.

                  Re: coffee/stall

I don't know about the coffee itself causing me a stall, but I do know this... If I "forget" about the carb count in coffee when I post to FitDay, my body remembers it. I can easily go over my carb limit if I conveniently omit my coffee and cream consumption.

Also, I had to get honest about my definition of "one cup". See I have this great big ole' travel mug that holds about 28 oz and would joke to my students oh I just have ONE cup of coffee, right? LOL So that plus an ounce of cream is 1.7 carbs... fill 'er up twice and that's about a quarter of my daily carb intake for induction!

The good news is since losing weight I have much more energy and don't drink but about 16 ounces at most of coffee per day, usually less. Best of luck to you.

Afraid I'm not much of a tea drinker, but I know tea does have carbs. Like I said my problem wasn't so much the caffeine in the stuff but the carbs. Once counted there went my carb count for the day. Try just counting the carbs and see how it goes.

it might just be a coincidence but last few days ive cut down on coffee ,im only having the 1 cup in the morning and maybe 1 after work , and the rest of the day im either drinking green tea ,peppermint tea or white tea so ill see how it goes and post results weighed 100kg last 2 days instead of 102kg

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I think it's probably the new running you added in. I always went up for the first week or two I'd start running until my body adjusted to it. Even a walking program can make me temporarily gain.

I'm sure your body being worked that hard would appreciate less caffeine though so cutting as much as you can out if still a good idea. Also with more exercise your body changes and you may actually need to raise your goal weight a little to keep from getting underweight and too little of body fat.
