    Heavier but smaller waistline

Hmm. At my lowest weight of 175lbs, I had a 36" waistline. I gained some weight back when I got a corporate job, but late last year got back on track. I'm 180 now but my waistline is 34". Odd.

    Great to hear Robbie

And as Dr Atkins implied - inches lost = fat lost

Yes surely sounds odd but who cares about the scale when the size is smaller.
      Congrats anyway!

That's what I'm wondering about. There hasn't been any change in my physical activity so I have no idea why I'd gain muscle mass if indeed that's what happened.

If I'm doing something right, I want to know what it is.

Maybe because we eat a moderate amount of protein along with the high fat element of Atkins we are losing more fat than muscle even if we do not do any specially vigorous exercise. I have heard the Atkins WOE described as a 'muscle sparing' diet. I don't know the scientific explanation of this.
