      LOL!!! Please do!!!

I guess my biggest question is...how do you figure out the net carbs of 4 slices of cucumbers? I know how much is in a whole cucumber, but how much in quantities like that?

You could weigh it, then you could use the USDA site for the actual weight.

You could use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal ... and they have "slices".

        The USDA is here:

and you can download it to your PC here:

Here's what's in the Old Wisconsin Summer Sausage:

          INGREDIENTS:
Beef and pork, salt, spices, dextrose, lactic acid starter culture, monosodium glutamate, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium nitrite.

          Dextrose is sugar.

We actually got the beef sticks not summer sausage, but doesn't matter either way...they're basically the same.

Looks like I'll be taking those off of his lunch list.

I knew that ... I was just showing you the ingredients of what I could find.

Anything that's called a "snack stick" and it's something you bought, it's probably not going to be the "best" choice.

It's not likely to be a "whole, unprocessed" food!

I'm kind of surprised and wondering why the book doesn't have water intake for different weights. I only see the 64 ounces a day everywhere in the book.

Don't forget the word "MINIMUM" associated with the 64 ounces!

Drinking extra water is one of those things that turns up from lots of experiences of other low carbers. It's "rule of thumb" that turns our to work quite well.

Another way of knowing how much water to drink ... an extra 8 ounces for every 25 pounds you want to lose.

I find that 1/2 your current weight in ounces of water a simpler way to calculate.

                      Re: Losing pounds and inches

since he doesn't want you to measure him go buy a ball of sting, not the stretchy kind just the regular kind like you used to fly a kite as a kid. and buy several different colored markers.

Now take the sting and use one color for each body part and mark his neck chest tummy hips thigh and upper arm on the string. you could make one string for each body place but the many colors will confuse anybody he is trying to hide his size from. next week redo the sting and he can see how far those marks have moved back toward the end of his string. I'd suggest marking on an envelope the part name in the color you used and store the string inside the envelope so you know where it is and what color is what so his tummy doesn't get bigger cause you used his thihg color instead of tummy color to compare.

I was a 313 pounder and lost in large amounts then stalled out and then lost again until the next stall.

For him at 400 pounds one pounds is a very small percent of his needed to lose weight so a 1% change will be several pounds.

As he shrinks the percent one pound represents will get biger until it will seem huge to him as he nears goal weight.

WHat are pigs in a blanket made of? Unfortunately it does sound like his meats are causing him to stall. Try going for more fresh cuts and prepare them. Like make up a bunch of steak and cut it up, make a pan of chicken breast and divide it up. That way it's ready for topping salads or eating and you know it's a pure meat, not high in sodium and mystery ingredients.

I have yet to find a jerky or meat stick in the store that is Atkins friendly. I purchased a professional dehydrator and will start making my own jerky.

He and I are both tired of people saying..."Oh, it's not going to hurt you to have a little."

OMG!!! You made me laugh out loud.

That's an excellent idea by the way. He would definitely like fresh cuts of meat like that. I can make him a small grilled chicken salad. Good deal!!!

See...these are the things I need. I really appreciate the ideas.

Plus....why didn't I flippin' think of our food dehydrator!!! We have one sitting on a shelf. That's excellent!!!

Thank you poobears1972....keep those ideas coming....I need all I can get!!! Fabulous!!!

2big's suggestion of using string instead of a tape measure was what I used when I started as I was too big around for a standard dressmaker's measuring tape in a couple of places!

It was quite a celebration for me when I could revert to using a tape measure instead!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Hmmmm, this is a bit confusing...

I went home and looked at the ingredients on my meat snack sticks and they have 1 gram of sugar.

Then I looked at our ranch salad dressing.....1 gram of sugar also, but that's okay?

                                Why is that?
