    Hey everyone,

    So i have been doing Atkins for about 6 weeks now. And i have pretty much been doing induction for the whole time. I eat 20 carbs a day, less than 4 oz of cheese and follow the 3 cups of vegetable guide line.



    That link has been my guidelines, and I have followed it very meticulously.

    I started at 305 and dropped down to 295 in the first two weeks. However, for the last 4 weeks or so, I have been around the same 294 mark. I have not changed my diet from the above guidelines. I have been pretty much in induction phase this whole time.

    I did go out to applebees once, and got steak, shrimp and a salad, and also had a few bites of spinach and artichoke dip (no chips). I do not know if those few bites of spinach dip could have ruined everything.

    I was just curious if anyone has advice, or if this is normal. I feel like i have hit a wall and was curious if Atkins diet is made for me? I am about ready to go back to pizza and cereal, I expected better results. If anyone has advice, I would highly appreciate it. Thank you.

      Can you please post a typical day's eating ... with quantities and net carbs.

      How much water are you drinking? What else are you drinking?

      Are you on any medications?

        I drink between 3-4 Liters of water a day, usually 3. I do not drink anything else. I am not on medications.

        Every morning i will have an omelet with 3 eggs, 2 ounces of cheddar and 4-6 peices of bacon. Once in awhile ill have an omelet with feta cheese, onions n peppers. If i were to do that, it would be a half cup of red peppers, 1/4 cup of onion.

        for lunch i will usually have hamburgers/cheeseburgers...each burger being around .4 lbs of beef....or I will have chicken salad...where ill use mayo, sour cream, salt pepper, and maybe chop up some onion

        for dinner i will usually have meat, i.e., steak, salmon, haddock, pork chops, shrimp, scallops, chicken....with a cup of asparagus and a salad with a cup of lettuce n 1/2 a cup of cucumber.....and I use a salad dressing that is sugar free, it is made for diabetics, one serving=2 tablespoons=1 carb

        I also cook stir fry for both lunch n dinner, where ill use 2-3 peices of chicken, 1/2 cup mushroom, 1/2 cup pepper. 1/2 cup of snow peas and a 1/4 cup of onion....and ill add salt pepper, soy sauce and sesame seed sauce.

        Also I use a few pork chop recipes where I will use vinegar

        that is about all i have been eating for the last 6 weeks, I have counted carbs everyday using either sparkpeople.com or fitday. I never use more than 3 cups of veggies and only use 1 cup of the non salad veggies (onions, etc). I know some meat like scallops have alot of carbs, but i always make sure I stay in the 20 carb range...maybe a day or 2 i went up to 21 or 22 carbs..but never anything more than that.

        I also eat string cheese and slim jims as snacks between meals....but again,,,never letting my carb count go over 20

        i am usually in the 16-20 carb range per day.

          From the sound of your menus they look perfectly 'legal' assuming you are cooking the foods yourself.

          Food outlets often add milk or even pancake batter to their scrambled eggs and omelettes, and the cheese in burger places can be processed rather than 'real' cheese.

          Applebees as well as other restaurants often inject their meats with a sugar solution to make it more yummy too.

          How much weight in total are you hoping to lose and how tall are you. Also are you male or female?

          Are you exercising, particularly doing lifting or body resistance exercises? If so are you dropping inches when the scales are not moving?

            are you allergic to sour cream?

            did you measure yourself? loseing inches is a better indicatior of fat loss people can lose no weight for awhile while loseing inches

            but here is the main problem i just looked up

            Manufacturer ConAgra says the Slim Jim is made from beef, mechanically separated chicken, water, salt, corn syrup, dextrose, flavorings, spice, paprika, hydrolyzed corn gluten, soy and wheat gluten proteins, sodium nitrite and lactic acid starter culture. Yum!

            corn syrup, dextrose, hydrolzed corn gluten, soy and wheat gluten proteins, there all illegal ingredients no wonder your not loseing weight!

            remember to always read the ingredients eating an illegal ingredient is not following atkins and would very easily stall someones weight loss i know it stalled mine when i ate these thin whole wheat wraps only 10 net carbs each but wheat is really blood sugar spikeing thats why its rung 9 so my weight was 100% stalled for months till i cut them out of my diet

            also you do know lots of food items say 0 carbohydrates on them when they are really no where near 0

              Good point, Ziggy!!

              Label reading is a big part of Atkins

              For anything with 'zero carbs' per serving which nevertheless contains ingredients that in larger quantities would have quantifiable carbs (like tomatoes etc) I would count at least 0.25 per serving to be sure.

                How many calories are you eating
                What are your stats
                What are you drinking?
                Taking any medication?
                Have you had a blood work and had your thyroid checked lately?

                  My guess is it's your extras messing you up, the slim jims, the soy sauce etc. Also 4oz is the maximum cheese, some cant' eat that much or they stall.

                    wow, that makes sense, after week 2, when i began to lose the weight, i started feeling the need for a snack between meals. I found slim jims and saw 1 carb per serving...and would eat a bunch all day.

                    I guess my question now is...where do i go from here?

                    Could i have potentially knocked my body off of ketosis mode? Do i need to start from scratch again and do another 2 weeks of induction?

                      You don't need to start over ... just clean up what you need to and keep moving forward.

                        It would be really helpful if along with that wonderful list of foods above, you would provide the net carbs with each item.

                          Be sure to keep track of your measurements because the weight on the scale might not be an accurate measure of fat loss. See, the scale doesn't differentiate between losing fat, gaining muscle or retaining water. So if you have lost a pound of fat, but are retaining a pound of water, the old scale will show 0 weight loss.

                          So, keep track of the inches you have lost. Dr. Atkins wrote that the loss of inches is a better indicator of fat loss. And I believe him, because I went through a period where I really didn't lose weight (down a pound one week, up a pound the next week, etc.) but during that time I managed to lose enough dress sizes to get me out of the extended sizes and into the normal sizes (albeit it was the larger normal sizes, but I was clearly out of the "women's" sizes!).

                            ok great thank you....I was planning on introducing flaxseed bread, revolution rolls, miracle noodles and atkins snack bars to my diet....I will also cut down on cheese, no soy sauce, no slim jims...and just be careful with the extras I add....any advice from here forward...and any warnings ?

                              Umm ... none of those are vegetables!

                              And you know you should add only one new thing at a time ... and then only 3 times per week.
