  • i had it all planned out...

dinner that is. now i am questioning myself. help please!

i am a guy. i am 36, 6-4" and weigh 380. this is my second week on atkins.

for dinner tonight i was going to have 4 hamburgers and a cup of brocolli. then i looked at the label and realized there were 287 calories in each burger. is the too much for one meal?

i was re-reading some of the induction chapter today at work and i know it says we aren't supposed to gorge. is this gorging?

    How big are the burgers?

4 hambugers would be gorging for me ...

Is one cup of broccoli all the vegetables you've had for the day?

What else have you had to eat today?

regular sized burgers you would buy in the store. approx 4 ounces each.

i have had 3 cups of veggies today. i had tomatoes and mushrooms in my omelette this morning and peppers and onions with lunch. i measured everything the night before so i would get exactly 3 cups.

for breakfast i had a 3 egg omelette with tomatoes, mushrooms, 1 slice of cheese and 2 strips of turkey bacon.

lunch i had 2 large sausage links with peppers and onions.

i also jogged\walked 3 miles on the treadmill in the gym this morning and lifted for 45 minutes (shoulders).

atkinsgirl i assume you are smaller than i am so 4 burgers would probably be too much for you. what about me though? 6-4" 380.....

      thanks for the help.

p.s. took in over 100 ounces of water today too.

        Canucme,

Don't worry about the calories, I would recommend removing the word from your vocabulary. If you follow Atkins, you will count your net carbs, keep your veggies to the limits in induction and enjoy your burgers.

In Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002) page 143, the question asked is "I'm used to counting calories. How many am I allowed during induction." The answer begins with "There is no need to count calories. The Atkins Nutritional Approach counts grams of carbohydrates instead of calories."

One note, enjoy the burgers but take your time. If you slowly eat all 4 burgers and feel satisfied, not stuffed, you should be good to go. If you stuff 4 burgers in your mouth and swallow once, you might feel OK, but you might feel bloated while sleeping.

On the converse side, if you get through 2 and a half burgers and feel you have had enough, wrap the rest in foil or put it into sandwich bags and stick them in the fridge. You can have them with breackfast, bring them for lunch or just eat them later.

Like you I am 6'4", 290 pounds. I'm having my own struggles, but overall, life is getting better.

Another point, after a week or 2 on Induction, the size of your eyes (in contrast to your belly) will shrink and your appetite will naturally decrease.

Stay positive, stay on track, and enjoy what the plan has for you.

Why not eat two ... and the broccoli ... wait a bit ... see if you want more.

          If you do, eat more.

thank you very much. eating fast has always been my second biggest problem when it comes to food. i bet i would have been good off two burgers cause right now i feel pretty full. a cup of brocolli seemed so small but with 2 burgers it probably would have been just right.

thanks for all the help. i really want to make this work this time.

Last time we talked about your menu we were stressing your need to have fats and be lower on protein ( I think) Have you made sure that you have added oils and butter where you can. Oil with your veggies is usually good. Or a somewhat fatty burger.

thank you. yes, instead of turkey burgers i used these 80/20 beef hamburgers. each pattie had 23 grams of fat and i had 4 of them. also i had my mom make me a huge container of brocolli with olive oil and some garlic. she gave me some containers that are exactly 1 cup so i divided the big container into these little ones so it is quick and easy.

thanks for remembering me. i am trying real hard to do this right because i have no means to keep track of my weight really. i ordered a 400 lb scale but i guess i am too heavy for it. at work i weighed 382 today on a big industrial factory scale. but i can't weigh in on that at that same time or with the same exact clothes on. so while i do have some idea of my success it really isn't all that accurate. i figured if i could just stay buckled down and get my fat *** down to 350 then at least i could start using the scale in my gym.

sounds like you got a good system going on. keep working your atkins and you will be small enough to weigh in no time.
