    Re: update

getting insulin under control will increase female hormones so it would be natural for atkins eting to assist folk in getting preggo.

Dr Atkins had a dietician on his staff that was preggo with twin boys and wrote about eating maintenace atkins while preggo.

        Re: update

That is a happy update. You can still take care of yourself. You do not have to use this as excuse to overeat. In the gym that I go to there is a couple of pregnant women who are really fit. They mostly train by walking on the track with their super round tummies. One of them does yoga (carefully and with a lot of modifications) and I always wonder what the baby is thinking about it.

          Congratulations on your pregnancy....

As a pregnant lady that craved icecream and coca cola, I feel for you.

I regret those choices now I made when I was pregnant with my daughter.

I was just thinking about getting pregnant today too. And how I would handle Atkins.

My advice, like everyone else said, make good choices. When you go to the store buy Atkins friendly foods and nutrient rich foods. Stear clear of the processed foods and bleached carbs. You don't need it and neither does the baby.

Do they have a support site on here that is geared toward pregnant women?

            Re: update

I had to chime in about the getting pregnant after weight loss. I have poly cystic ovarian syndrome. I tried medication and even surgery to get pregnant. It never happened. I had a one son but I wanted another baby so bad. I basically gave up on having another one. Then I went on Atkins and lost 45 lbs. and was shocked to then find out we were pregnant! The Dr. explained that when women have PSOC that it causes lots of side effects. Women could have things such as dandruff, dark skin patches, or extra hair growth like on the face, and since its hormonal people usually are insulin resistant therefore it makes them gain weight very easily and makes it hard to lose. He told me I would have to work twice as hard as the normal person to lose weight. So therefore since Atkins is low carb it was the perfect choice for me and the perfect choice to treat this! So when I began to lose the weight even my dandruff disappeared! And to the lady that just found out she is pregnant...........I recently just had my 3rd CHILD!!!!! When I thought for so long I would only have one. If you gain weight during this pregnancy, you can do as I have done and just get back to it when the baby is born! Just try to walk and control your sugar intake. I didn't do so well and ended up on insulin during the last two pregnancies. But I do not want that for you! Your Dr. could probably even send you to a dietitian to help come up with a low sugar plan that will fit you! Mine did and they were very helpful.

              Re: update

And don't forget we have a special corner of ADBB pregnant and nursing mothers so if you need you can commiserate and get help etc from others who are or have been in the same situation recently.

I am not sure how many expectant mums we have on board at the moment, but sometimes that forum is buzzin!!!
