Welcome. I'm really sorry to hear about your dad and how things also went south for you re your weight and energy. Your energy should come back, as soon as you get into weight loss mode instead of weight gain mode. Do have your thyroid checked just in case - you mentioned your metabolism is dead. It could be slow - take your temperature several times - in the morning before you get out of bed and a couple of times during the day when you have not eaten or had something to drink. If your temp is consistently around 96 to 97 deg. F. - then you should get a complete thyroid panel done: TSH, FT3 and FT4 and a thyroid antibody test. It might just be that your metabolism has slowed due simply to lack of exercise. Hope that is all it is. Sometimes stress brings on Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (it did in my case) and that equals hypothryoidism and that means a very slow metabolism and inevitable weight gain and tremendous difficulty losing weight.

I myself was so touched reading all these replies to you. You have come to a good place to find support. May God bless you, as you embark on your new way of life - not a "diet". We all know diets don't work. Old habits that are embraced again, just put the weight back on and yet some.

All the best!!! (((HUGS))) to you.

there are so many WONDERFUL comments on here I don't know how to thank you all..

but some things are sticking in my head..

yes I should get thyroid checked... I stay cold.. and my temp. is never above 98, even when I feel like I 'have a fever'...

there's enough items I can 'live with' even on the induction phase, that I CAN make this work.

later I'll scan and post a pic of me ... with Daddy.. at last year's Peachtree Road Race..this will be my 16th straight... because everybody knows you don't have to RUN the whole way.....so it's something I've kept up..

The diet pills... they make the fatigue a little less.. but those have to go.. they dont' help me EAT less...

water.. I have to mostly definately drink more...

plan ahead... i have to PLAN and make the eggs, prepare some celery sticks

and most of alll don't give UP!!!

eating strawberry shortcake made me what i am today :sadblinky

it is never too late to find Atkins

When I started this WOL (I'm 46)... I didn't even have a "last" hope - I had no hope at all of ever gaining any control over my appetite.

But Atkins has suprised me and changed me in many positive ways and it can work for you too. The key is embracing this WOL as a permanent lifestyle and finding joy in it. Which I do.

Good luck to you on your new journey. Move that skeleton! I do believe if you have run before, it will come easier for you if go exercise on a regular basis. Of course the first month is tough, but you can do it!

that's the amazing thing to me.. control over appetite...

yes it's only been a few days.. and yes there's been times when I wanted strawberries or a banana SO much...

but I'm really not HUNGRY.. it's just things I WANT...

before... I could eat an entire quart of berries.. with sugar.. then eat several little debbies... and STILL not fell satisfied...

the prescription diet pills did nothing to curb my appetite.. that's the thing that keeps me on this plan.... it DOES help me not feel like eating everything in 3 counties!
