OK, in the 4 books I'm reading (or re-reading depending on the book); DANDR02, Atkins For Life, Atkins Diabetes Revolution and TNT Diet (all low carb); they all recommend having a Glucose Tolerance Test.
Having just finished a search on the web for information regarding the GTT, each one lists it as a test only given to test for potential gestational diabetes.
Dr. Atkins lists the GTT as a test to verify if the subject, actually produces insulin and how big the changes are. From my understanding, the amount of change could assist the doctor in determining if a patient should be responsive enough to the Atkins Diabetes Plan to be able to significantly reduce, or eliminate, Diabetes medicines and return the patient to normal blood glucose levels.
I go to see my Dr. tomorrow and plan on asking him to update the status of my cholesterol, triglycerides glucose A1C, serum insulin, and check my liver, kidney and thyroid functions
I also plan on asking about a 2-hour Post Prandial Blood Glucose Test and/or GTT (maybe a C-peptide test).
Anything else I should ask about and any other comments or suggestions that might be helpful?
Thanks,
forbey
