It depends how you want to cook them...

I prefer them roasted. If you search "roasted artichoke" online, a bunch of recipes will come up.

      Re: Ahh...veggies

Actually I had been having cravings and I went ahead and ate it. I usually can fend them off with something legal. But I kept thinking I wouldn't be satisfied with less sugar which is hardly the case. Usually I'll make a mock danish, eat some chocolate almonds (they are low carb) or make a mock cake and I am fine.

So I decided that I wasn't going to deprive myself. If I wanted to eat something sweet, I will, just what's legal. So today I ate a mock danish for breakfast. No more cravings. It satisfied me.

I have been very good about going off plan and knowing when I might (birthdays, weddings etc). I don't know why I thought differently yesterday. I got in the mindset "it won't hurt." I didn't even tell myself I would regret it.

I've had Easter candy in my house for a week I didn't eat, why this stupid brownie?

I am VERY mad at myself today and last night.

The brownies are in the back at work right now and I can stay away. I have no desire to eat it right now.

      Again, thanks for listening.

And I didn't meant to be rude about not scolding me. No one has no idea how much I am scolding myself and I don't need others making me feel worse. If I knew how to barf on command I would have done it last night after eating it. My husband is getting the brunt of it today and he is just trying to encourage me to stay positive.

      Why did I lose control?

is TOM close? chocolate has lots of drug type chemicals in it that female hormones can cause a desire for.
Dr Atkins has a quote in DANDR 1992 about temptation
He says "I for example have perfecting dieting downto the point where there is only one thing I cannot resist. That one thing is temptation." DANDR 1992 chapter 23

in DANDR 2002 Dr Atkins says cravings for sweets are caused by a drop in blood sugar so were you late eating or had a lighter then normal meal earlier? I know when my fat intake drops I got cravings no matter how much food volume I ate.

And you will be happy to know Dr Atkins in his discussion about eating in the real world and cravings says one statagey is to take a break from your diet and have one off plan food and then get right back on your Atkins. Of course if you are a carboholic like me then getting back on plan isn't that easy so never getting off plan is the better option.
another option which looks like what you had been doing is have a low carb alternative to the high carb temptation.

Your chocolate almonds even if they are low carb could be what triggered your chocolate brownie craving. A little chocolate might make your body crave more.

            Re: Ahh...veggies

I have been eating those almonds for a month now without a side affect. They are actually very satisying.

It's very possible the homemade bbq sauce I had given me the trigger. My husband made it and I had some with some meat yesterday. I didn't see what he put in it, so that means it probably had sugar in it. I didn't realize it until today. But still, I caved and I can't do anything about it except move on.

Maybe I should punish myself and move back to induction.

                  No! No! No!
Just carry on at the OWL rung you are at

You are now back on-plan and though you cannot un-eat that brownie you have exercised carb-damage control and can carry on as normal and just keep an eye out for cravings and next time eat something highfat or sour instead.

                    RE: chocolate craving

It might indicate a magnesium deficiency.

                    RE: cooking artichokes

I snip off the points, slice off the stem near the base (and I peel the stems if they are large, because the peeled stem is edible and tastes like the hearts---waste not want not!), then I put them stem up on a shallow microwave-safe dish. Add about 1/2 inch of water, loosely cover and microwave on HIGH for about 5-10 minutes, checking every couple of minutes to see if the heart is tender by seeing if the tip of a knife can easily pierce it. When they are done, I remove them from the microwave, drain the cooking water and either eat them hot or cool them to room temp or put in the fridge to eat cold.

This is faster than the boiling/braising method that requires about 1 hour to cook in a big pot of water.

induction isn't a punishment for cheating it is a tool getting back to ketosis if 14 day induction is over and you have moved to OWL.

Just eating back on plan is the correct atkins thing to do after a cheat.

You could punish yourself by writing 500 times I will not put anything in my mouth until I know the carb count and if it is legal for my phase. now that would be punishment!

YES! And if those cravings have a hold of you, check out Julia Ross' book The Mood Cure to understand how our brain chemistry creates a dependency on foods we really ought not have, and how natural supplements and low carbohydrate eating fixes what ails us! I recommend her book to Atkineers all the time. The books work together for a healthy lifestyle!

i was half kidding about going back to induction. although i am very desperate to lose a little more weight before my cruise. i don't have enough will power to go back to induction. i need to refocus. it's very hard when i am in vacation mode 2.5 weeks out from vacation.
