  • KFC Double Down

Has anyone seen or tried this? I first saw this last year and thought "there's no way that they would release something like that". KFC was testing it in a few markets back then. Now it's out nationwide.

If you don't know what it is, it's a sandwich that uses 2 fried chicken pieces as buns. Inside it has cheese and bacon. This would be a good Atkins sandwich, if the chicken weren't fried.

I looked on their website, and they will actually make this with grilled chicken also! I am going to try one today, only I'm going to ask that they only put 1 piece of cheese instead of 2. It also comes with some kind of sauce that I'm also going to have them not put on there.

      Re: KFC Double Down

      My review:

We've been seeing them for weeks: Those ads for the KFC Double Down that had America ready to go into a KFC, slap down our five dollah and motorboat those chicken breasts right there in front of the manager and God and everyone.

Maybe I over thought the moment. Maybe the corporate advertising world doesn't care so long as I paid to take a taste. What I got instead-- as I stood in anticipation-- was what every teen boy experiences when he gets to second base: a mediocre, awkward moment with a couple of breasts.

We ordered the grilled chicken version of the sandwich and a pair of bird bazooms much smaller than the media images shown were slid to me across the counter (*sings* enhannnciinngg).

"There's no cleavage here!" I said to my son. The manager covered her chest. A nearby plumber hitched up his pants. But I kid.

The small sandwich chicken itself was juicy and delicious, much better than I had anticipated, with nothing frou frou about the breasts themselves. Straightforward enough. Nonetheless, waggling between the lanky meat melons was one lone, fetal pickle slip of bacon, some sad sauce that looked like bellybutton cheese, and a floppy slice of yellow pepper jack (more jack than pepper). The combination was a flavorless goo that reminded me why society has the baby's foreskin removed.

Per reports, there wasn't any of the much-announced sodium that we noticed, but I have this to say:

This was one sandwich that could have used the push up bra post-processing.

In all fairness, results could vary from restaurant to restaurant, but we wouldn't likely be revisiting this sandwich sans emergency.

KFC Double Down Cost: $5.99 for the value meal
      Carb/Calorie Count: 3 carbs/460 calories
Ingredients: KFC® Grilled Filet or Tender Roast® Chicken Filet, Colonel’s Sauce, Bacon, Pepper Jack Cheese, Monterey Jack Cheese. I sensed possible MSG in the Colonel's Sauce.
Flavor: Juicy tender breasts, but insides were lacking in flavor
Texture: The chicken was fabulously cooked, but the insides were slippery as snot on a porcelain doorknob and about as flavorful
Usefulness: Perfect if you're in an emergency food situation and need to eat. Have them hold the sauce and see if they'll double up the cheese and bacon

Funny review. I'm going to try it and decide for myself. I was running late this morning and walked out the door without my lunch so maybe I'll get some green beans with it and get my veggies in.

Definitely try it yourself. Our experience could be wholly incumbent upon the actual store we visited, but I feel I've had my curiosity satisfied at any rate!

i tried the grilled. it was LAME! It was pretty dry and the sauce and bacon was paltry at best.

to try once it was OK, but I wouldn't have it again

Your entire post was hilarious, however, having once been a teenage boy myself (in a previous CENTURY) I assure you that any moment to a teen, awkward or not, that involves a pair of breasts... ANY BREASTS, would NEVER be classified as mediore.

                  Re: KFC Double Down

Just got done eating one, and sadly, it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be (no surprise there though). For as small as the pieces of chicken were and as much as the sandwich costs, they need to at least add a strip of bacon. The cheese is too large for the sandwich, so the majority of it was on the paper I asked for no sauce so I can't comment on that. A positive is that the chicken was nice and juicy. The small amount of bacon that was on it was crisp and fresh. I can't say that I would buy another one of these but on a day where you forget to grab your lunch off the counter (woops), they are ok.

                  I give it a 400 out of 758 stars.

Best Post Ever! Why? You first sexualized a chicken, then you berated it, shunned it, were disgusted by it, and then you ate it.

                    So very Hannibal Lecter.

Thank yew. Here. You can try a real Double Down. I made it this afternoon in about 20 minutes, with enough for everyone, if you use an entire bag of chicken breasts. There are more real breasts here than in the entire cast of the Real Housewives of Orange County.

I was going to ask if anybody has tried that grilled sandwich and how many carbs are in it. Sounds like it's not worth the time or money. I'll stick to my salads.
