Your food choices seem 'legal' but you have not mentioned what fats you are using - we need to add fat of some kind to our vegetable carbs so as to lessen any possible blood sugar 'spikes'.

So have some cream cheese or paté with those celery sticks, or dip them into a fullfat (no added sugar) dressing, and maybe melt butter over your dinner veggies.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Thanks for the advice, Elizellen Is there anything I can do to make the cream cheese have a different flavor? And what is a paté?

        What's wrong with 4 g carbohydrate, no fiber and 1 g sugar?

You forgot about starch. That's not on the label.

When an item says it has 4 grams of carbs, no fiber and only 1 gram of sugar. Somebody must have failed 3rd grade math. (Total carbs - fiber = What you're gonna have to burn or add to you weight).

Dextrose, maltodextrin and a whole host of other "...ose" sweeteners are listed in the ingredients. Carmel coloring is one that they may not spell out. How do you make carmel coloring, you sort of burn sugar.

another recommendation is to go with single ingredient items. Examples: Steak, chicken, squash, etc. Instead of adding ready made sauces, study herbs, you can really soup up the flavor of a meat or vegetable with little or no carbs with herbs. THEN THERE IS BUTTER! (If it is possible to fall in love with food, butter is mine!)

Look through the list of acceptable foods, find one you like and look for recipes here for it. Then plug that recipe into a meal spot for the weak. Once you have this week filled, start planning next week NOW, instead of waiting until Saturday, because you will end up rushing or panicking and that is where you can slip.

As a side note from an old skinny man (trying to escape from out of an old fat man) concentrate on following the plan as closely as you can and concentrate on how you are feeling and what appears to be working. If you do that, the weight will take care of itself.

        We're cheering for you!

Paté (pronounced pat-ay) is a meat paste. Think of "Deviled Ham" you get at the store only with healthier ingredients. It can add something special to your snacks or meals. I'm afraid you will need to do your homework on recipes to make your own or to find Atkins approved patés.

If I can help you find anything specific, feel free to let Grampa Forbey know. Ill see what I can do to help!

I just said the math was wrong (4 minus 0 does not equal 1).
The math is not wrong, because carbohydrates minus fiber do not have to equal sugar.

Simply put, if a label say 4 (or 9, or 19) grams of carbs and whatever number of grams of fiber. The important fact to pay attention to is not the number of grams of sugar listed on the label, but what the result of the mathmatical equation "Total Carbs minus Fiber equals Net Carbs".

As long as you have room in your meal plan for those net carbs, or are willing to pay for eating them, then go for it. Just as long as you know what it is you are getting.

              forbey,

I am not trying to pick up any fight, unless disagreeing with something you posted is fighting.

The point is, no matter how you turn it, it is incorrect to say that "the math was wrong" on the label because "4 minus 0 does not equal 1".

For some strange reason you are attempting to pick a fight in this young ladies thread, rather unfortunate, I would say.

Food labels are written in such a manner as to show Total Carboydrates and under that they usually have (indented) two other listings "Fiber" & "Sugar". It is a common mistake to deduce from the label that all you have to worry about are the sugars. Until one understands that while "carbohydrates minus fiber do not have to equal sugar"; more frequently than not carbohydrates minus fiber DEFINITELY do not equal suger.

The point of my entry is to highlight the FACT that Carboydrates minus Fiber results in a number from ZERO to WHATEVER that you need to include when calculating how many carbohydrates you are consuming or to calculate you meal plan to make sure you stay within your alotted net carbs.

Ashleye233, I do apologize if this has turned unpleasant and I will refrain from further interaction with whatsername to try and return to the topic of the thread.

As for whatsername, if you want to lecture me further, start a new thread or send me a PM so we can return this thread to some level of civil discourse.

BTW, the name is "forbey", not "Forbey"!

The "sugar" here is likely to actually be sugar, not just "carbohydrate".

It's on nutritional labels for diabetics, for whom this information is critical. You might want to check out chapter 19 in your DANDR.

You can mix some herbs or spices into cream cheese to give it a totally different taste.
I like to snip fresh chives into little bits and mix them in to make an onion-y tasty cheese, or you could add chopped chilli peppers if you like 'hot'.

To add to the cream cheese "conversion" you can mash avocado and add some salsa (watch the carbs or make your own) and mix it into the cream cheese. Or, leave out the avocado and just go with the salsa. It takes on aa thicker, richer consistency than using sour cream.

Re: I Need Help Making a Meal Plan

                        Labels can be very misleading.
One of the SoBe anti-oxident drinks I bought said ZERO CALORIES. That would usually mean zero carbs, as well, wouldn't you think? But I look at the label to see what is in this thing, and it has 6 grams of carbs. No sugar, mind you, but it still said zero calories, with 6 grams of carbohydrate. 6 carbs is 54 calories, unless there is an alternate universe inthe Sobe factory.
I am so intrigued, I think I will call their toll-free number and annoy someone.
