  • Frustrated!!!!!

I made it through 2 week induction and lost 7 pounds. Since then I have bounced around up 2 pounds then down! I can't seem to get the scale to budge!!!! I have remained in ketosis and stuck to the induction plan, but nothing is happening!

I've read the book, and would hate to think I am one of the unfortunate that has high metabolic resistance.... I'm so frustrated!!!! And to make matters worse, my husband is dropping weight like crazy and we are doing the same thing!!!!

    Any suggestions??

    Re: Frustrated!!!!!

    Hi Jill,

Are you on extended induction? Because your status say 14-day induction and your siggy says that you started on April 1.

According to p158 in my paperback version of DANDR 2002, it says that for the amount of weight you want to lose, and how much you lost during induction that you are at the average metabolic resistance. OWL is supposed to be where you actually lose most of the weight, so you may want to move on to OWL 1 and continue on. I have heard that the 3rd week is one where you actually can see a slump in weight loss.

If your start date is correct, then even with your 5lb loss you have still averaged a 1.25lb loss per week, and that's right about correct. Try not to look at what everyone else has received, all of our bodies are different.

You can do this! Keep on keepin' on!

      Re: Frustrated!!!!!

      Kristi,
Yes, I am on extended induction! I've been fearful to move on to OWL 1 since I felt like weight loss had stalled after my initial 2-wk induction phase. In reviewing my SparkPeople nutrition log, I just realized I've been slightly under the 20 g for carb intake (usually 13-15g) daily, so maybe that could be the problem. Do you agree?

Thanks so much for your encouragement. I guess I'm just really frustrated today

      Jill

Well, it could be that. There are a few components at work in induction, so maybe you could post one of your menus here and let us take a look at it? Sometimes if we are not eating enough calories it can cause problems.

I totally get the frustrated feeling. Just try to step back, get some advice and do better. The alternative to eating well is worse, right?

          Re: Frustrated!!!!!

Many people experience a hesitation in the sudden induction weightloss after those heady first couple of weeks. There is even a phrase called 'Post Induction Stall Syndrome' that describes it.

I think our body needs a little time to work out what is happening sometimes - often peple do see a change in their measurements even though the scales stubbornly sit there without moving.

So I would celebrate that 16% loss you have already had and move on to the main weightloss phase of Atkins now and start to discover your CCLL and if any of the OWL foods affect your losing progress while reaching your goal weight in your body's own time
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Also make sure you are counting net carbs, not total carbs. Or you will be way too low on your carbs.
