  • slow losers

ugh I hate being a slow loser....but I have hope. I have learned my meds are causing this so I will keep on with the diet.

Any other slow losers out there with tips that have helped them? I drink so much water its all I drink anymore actually, except for coffee in the am.

And my Ketone strips are usually showing medium levels.
    I am CHUBBY again!

    Re: slow losers

Im a slow loser too, =( sucks.

Cutting back on dairy might help, though I love dairy.. I know I lose better without it.
But atkins is for life, so if Im going to eat dairy and stall awhile so be it.
The slower it comes off, the slower it'll come back on if you have a cheat meal or something.

      Re: slow losers

Oh...it is a sloooow go 4 me too, probably because of the meds that i have 2 take. Keep these issues in mind:
      1. it's important to try 2 identify what your body is sensitive to and when Some people are sensitive to salt, 4 example, some people are only sensitive to salt in during that lovely PMS time. Cheese and most roasted nuts are higher insalt as well as processed meats or 'pre-seasoned' meats. Some people are sensitive 2 coffee, we're all individuals so sensitivities vary.
      2. If u are taking any meds, certain drugs by definition cause your body to be sensitive in different ways (eg. diuretics could cause salt sensitivity, BC pills can throw off your metabolism since it acts on hormone balances and metabolism is largely influenced hormonally)
      3. Just because your weight loss in NUMBERS doen't move as quickly as you would like, measure yourself in INCHES/cm and put more of a focus on clothing size...if you are shrinking....you're losing...the numbers will catch up eventually (I hpe, hope, hope)
      4. Exercise - you cannot underestimate the importance of moving yourself and this will bump up your metabolism regardless of hindering factors and will help you 2 reshape your body regardless of how fast the numbers fall and boost your energy too.
      5. I try 2 focus on the terrific energy that Atkins gives me and the healthy influence it has on my bloodwork because these are probably more essential than how fast of slow the #'s drop...oh but i do want to shop for much cooler clothes and not feel like i'm going 2 break a ladder as i climb up...there's extra mental work involved for slow losers...we'll get there and probably stay there because we've developed the emotional and physical muscle along the way.

        Re: slow losers

I'm a slow looser as well. I have to watch that I eat enough carbs (currently 25 net carbs) and drink plenty of water. Stress and lack of sleep also slows down my weight loss. Certain cheese slows me down as well. It's really very individual. You got to test things out.

I find fitday.com very helpful. Tracking the foods that I eat, helps me to identify foods that are a "no go" = stall me, respectively the ones that slow me down.

Don't weigh yourself everyday if you can't handle the fluctuations mentally/emotionally. Just weigh yourself once a week or even just once a month. Measuring yourself is important as well. And most importantly acknowledging how your body feels, how much energy you have gained.

                  Re: slow losers

Since February, I've pretty much been a "no loser". And I'm becoming exstatic about it!

For the first time in my diabetic life, I'm not packing on the pounds, my blood glucose numbers are within the range of normal levels and I'm taking 3 pills twice a day instead of 200 to 300 units of insulin a day.

I've got no reason to complain, but a handfull of reasons to stay with Atkins and to push forward to lose more weight!

"I may not be a loser today, but at least I'm not a gainer!"

                    Re: slow losers

Slow loser here! Maybe 1 lb a week if that. Occasionally, I might get a bonus of 2 lbs a week but then the other weeks of no loss make up for it. Ah well.

The keys to doing this is follow the program strictly, i.e. no cheats, do OWL, find your CCLL, find known stallers and triggers and avoid them, really keep track of what you're eating, drink your water, exercise. Weight loss is going to be slow and any little things that might slow others down (ex. a cheat, retaining water due to too much sodium from a certain food, staller foods like too much cheese, etc.) might make it even slower for us, so it's often best to do this all as clean as possible in order to maximum the weight loss that you do get.

Second, accept that your weight loss is going to be slow. Don't panic if you don't lose weight as fast as others or as you'd like. Don't set goals by a certain date or try and guess what you'll weight by X date, it's not good for your mental state. Don't always assume you're in a stall and use that as a reason to cheat or give up. If anything, use that as motivation to stick to this WOE even more.

Measure and track it. You very well might be losing inches more than weight. And look for the none-measureable weight loss areas like face, hands, feet, etc.

Exercise. Even more important for us, as it's likely a health condition making weight loss slow and more exercise, especially muscle building like weight training, helps.

They say that losing weight slowly is often best as it often means you're less likely to regain that weight. In that case, us slow losers are set as long as we stick to this! Also, I've read it's better for your skin too as it gives it more time to adjust. Cling to these things as positive things about being a slow loser!

                        Re: slow losers

i'd like to add that people who lose weight slower than "average" are generally people who have been heavier their whole life.

those people that were thin and THEN got heavy are the ones that lose the weight the quickest. their natural metabolism isn't slow at all.. the unhealthy food is what made them heavy.

i have been overweight my whole life. the only time i got thin was when i was obsessed with the gym and had an eating disorder.

you have to be OK with the rate that your body is losing and not question it unless you are cheating on the diet, and yourself. there is no magical "quick fix", just hard work and dedication.

                          I am a slow loser

But I've been told that this is also depends on how much you have to lose... For 9 month I have lost about 26 lbs only!

I have funny loosing pattern ... It is like little jumps. It happens about once in 2 - 3 weeks I loose about 2lbs.

I also agree about weighting yourself only once a week helps more than every day. My weight fluctuates during the week +/-2lbs

But... I agree with Thefemalegreenday that Atkins is for life... so one way or another I will get to my goal weight

I was really slow the first 2 weeks but seem to have done better the last 2. My meds are an issue too. I had to get off the sugar free tums for calcium and start taking the kind you swallow because the chewables had sucrose in them.

Another slow looser here, I've been on Atkins since September and have yet to hit the 35 pound loss mark. I lost a whole 2/10ths of a pound for the entire month of April. And unlike lannerjarv's philosophy, I have not been overweight my entire life, I was barely 100 pounds in my 20s. I didn't start packing on the pounds until after a total hysterectomy at a rather young age. I also take a diuretic for my blood pressure so that may be a contributing factor.

On the last day of April I was feeling pretty disgusted that the entire month was gone and the scale had hardly moved, when I passed two co-workers sitting in the luch room that were marveling that "I just keep shrinking", I confessed that I was down because the scale hadn't moved the entire month, and they both shook there head and said "forget that scale, at the least you are redistributing and its moving to the right places". So that perked me up and made me feel a whole lost better about a month that I consided to be bust.
