  • Can anyone explain this- have no idea how this is possible!

Hello there everyone- I've been on STRICT induction for the past 2 weeks and have lost only 2 pounds, but am assuming that it's water retention due to the fact that my (sorry guys) cycle has occurred twice this past month (I did an initial run of Atkins and hadn't lost weight, quit, then reread the book and cut out the aspartame and caffeine, added more exercise and water). Here's the bizarre thing...

Okay, so I know that ketostix are controversial but when I had huge success with this diet several years ago my ketostix were always dark purple. These past couple of weeks they've been dark pink (moderate level) and I haven't been losing like I did back then.

My husband's birthday was yesterday and his only request, my homemade lasagna. Ever tried making sauce from scratch without being able to taste it? I'm Italian, sauce is my thing. I had to cheat to make sure I didn't cook him crap (it's not a written down kind of thing- it's a pinch of this a bit of that, etc.) And, well, you know that once you go down that road you go all the way. I had a slice of cheesecake with the lasagna and a couple slices of garlic bread (still went to Jazzercise). Hopped back onto induction today with no problems, I've worked out today, not dehydrated- ketostix? DARK PURPLE. Blew me away. Is there a reason for this? How is that possible- I completely messed up yesterday. Anyone ever had this happen?

The only thing the sticks show is that while burning fat, your body produced more ketones than you were able to use. If you are in ketosis, but burning the ketones you might not show any color. Once into your bladder, I'm not sure if the body recovers them, so if you are in ketosis all day long but several times during the day your metabolism didn't keep up with ketone production you could get a darker color.

Of more importance, if you are putting out a lot of ketones, you are also generating other cellular wastes. So push the water to help flush out your cells, your blood stream and your urinary tract.

There are a lot of other factors involved in actually reducing your weight. Feel free to use the sticks if they help you maintain a positive outlook on your program, but also look at how you feel, how your clothes fit and how your lab work changes over time.

      Regardless, push the water!

Do your best to avoid the pitfalls.

As for me, I can appreciate the finer things in cultural cuisine, but remember, screwing your program to make someone else's dinner a success, isn't as important as your own success!

Mags, I don't have an answer to your question but just wanted to mention that I make a killer speghetti sauce that's induction friendly.
