Umm I'm not seeing what was nasty about her comment... or sarcastic..

    but meh..

I don't really have any of the low carb frankenfoods - honestly i'm afraid they'll stall me which I definitely want to avoid.

However, when I get to the dairy rung of OWLS I plan on having some carb option ice cream - not a lot maybe a cup a week *or whatever the serving size is* but it is something i'm planning on having.

I've had the atkins bar once - will never touch it again, it sparked up too many cravings in me and didn't leave me satisfied at all.

i don't understand why everyone gets so fired up over this...if you aren't eating frankenfoods then wohoo go you. why does everyone get so mean and nasty? the question was specifically posed for people who are eating them, not to make a point about how wonderful they are and everyone should start eating them 3x a day. if someone can incorporate a bar or shake into their wol then fabulous, it is not hurting you. i am not trying to stir up more trouble, but i've been sitting back watching things play out and it just annoys me that people are made to seem evil and less than worthy cause they can eat a bar and lose weight! like we've all established, everyone is different and what works for you won't work for me. i don't think anyone has said or advocated that frankenfoods should be eaten all day everyday for every stage of the game.

back to your question maysea...i've been drinking the atkins shake's off and on for a month or two without any problems. i only use them when i am on the run and doin't have time to make breakfast. i would never replace all my breakfasts with them, but it is has been fine once or twice a week.

I didn't touch them during induction, but since then I've added things like advantage bars when I am traveling or on the go (rarely) and I have low-carb ice cream a few times a week. It doesn't seem to bother me as much, but again...it all depends on you and how you handle them...

Okay folks, let's do some brain exercise for this thread instead of turning it into a name-calling-my-feelings-are-hurt mess....

WHY do you think some people can get away with eating these foods and some people can't? Is it due to their exercise intensity? Is it due to their sex? Is it due to their CCLL? Is it due to luck?

Come on, let's get our brains to pump some intellectual iron...

I am 25 and exercise vigerously. I used to have ashake every morning and still lost weight, BUT I found when I quit having them my weight loss increased. I haven't changed much else. Also I found a great deal on the bars I could get a box of 25 for $3.00 on clearance (they quit carrying them) I would eat them when a craving hit and still lost weight. It didn't really stall me but I could lose more without them.

I think one of the problems with them as well is the calories. I think most bars are somewhere around 220 - 250 calories. That's a very high calorie snack if you ask me. That combined with the sugar alchols would be the problem.

Just a question for you Pam...

What's your CCLL (Critical Carbohydrate Losing Level)? I have a theory that the folks who are able to "carb up" and lose weight or the people who can eat these relatively high carb "low carb foods" (high carb if you count the sugar alcohol, polydextrose, glycerin, etc.) have a higher carbohydrate tolerance level than the folks who can't. So they are able to lose weight even if they eat the equivalent of 50 total carbs. Therefore they really aren't "carb loading" or outsmarting their bodies, they are really eating below their individual CCLL. ensive

the thing I noticed is that for a very small minority they eat these things with no problems...for the larger group of people doing Induction it causes so many problems from stomach pains to weight stalls...if you can eat them and still lose at a rate that makes you happy then more power to you...unfortunately we so often see the posts from people upset because they cannot see the weight coming off like they had hoped...almost inevitably the problem is the frankenfoods...

on a side note...maysea I thought you weren't happy with your weight loss and thats why you wanted to do the meat and eggs diet...if that is the case why add in frankenfoods that could hinder your loss?

Megs right now I can eat 40 carbs per day and still lose. I started the shakes on induction. I remember reading in DANDR that DR.A said he stands behind anything with his name. I quit using them when I found post about them and actually lost more weight than before I think if I had not used them on induction I might have lost more but who knows.

As Megs said, let's get the brain power going and think about this subject and do some intellectual brainstorming and no name calling.
I like some of the responses I am seeing. I think people are thinking about this, and a good discussion is good to have.
Thanks to all for your cooperation.

I had to wean myself off of them, because I had bad cravings for them and binged...If a person has a sweet tooth, they are not the wisest choice, imo.

that's an intersesting theory actually, other than the digestive issues i can have them...and my CCLL is high, around 60 t 0 80 (depending on exercise, but 60 i'm good w/o much). you may have a good point there...depends on carb tolerance in general

Okay, in Pam's case, her CCLL is 40 and she exercises vigorously. But inspite of that CCLL and exercise, her loss picked up when she dropped the shakes. So for Pam, it's just not the number of daily carbs....it's most likely something in the shakes that affects her. Could it be the number of calories, like Sadie pointed out?

                                Editing to add..

I hate to keep picking on you Pam, but would you happen to know your BMR during Induction and the number of calories (including the shakes) you were eating as compared to your current BMR and calories?
