I have a theory about this. Have you guys ever read Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type? It basically states that depending on your blood type, different diets might or might not work for you. Low-fat vegetarian definitely does not work for me, but it does work for others. Supposedly, Type A are natural vegetarians, meaning, they thrive on grains and veggies. Type O are natural hunters and gatherers, meaning, they thrive on higher fat, meat, seafood, etc, with no grains, and some veggies. Type B thrive on a lower fat diet that is a combination of meat, grains, veggies. I am type O, and was vegetarian for years, and became sicker and fatter. In fact, i was most ill when I was vegan. So I guess the moral of my story is, what's good for you and I might not be good for everyone. But.......I'm willing to bet that the people that can eat "whatever they want" (i.e, sugar sugar sugar in all of its forms) and stay thin are NOT Type O. Also, Type O is the most common blood type, which is probably why Atkins works so well for so many.

That's just my theory based on some research I have done.

    Any comments are welcome

The blood type thing is iffy IMO. Dr. A stated this about it in a 2003 interview with Larry King:

CALLER: I was wondering if you're familiar with the eat right for your type diet of Dr. Peter Dodomo, which is based on blood types.

ATKINS: Well, I know a little bit about it. I know about the role of blood types.

CALLER: Well, I'm curious what you think about that because he says that the Type O very similar to yours...

      ATKINS: Right.

CALLER: But for, like, types A and B, he says they can't digest animal proteins and they should stay away from those and maybe have more carbs. I just wondered what you think about blood type and diet.

ATKINS: That can't be really because such a high percentage of people, we're talking about 99 percent of people, go on our diet and succeed with it. And this means that just about every blood type is included in the group that succeeds on it.

I tend to believe him, even though I am a Type O and most definitely happier and healthier on low carb. It would be very interesting to do some kind of poll to see if there are any other types doing really well on Atkins.

I think blood type could have something to do with other differences in biology.

If one woman can regulate the menstruation of the other women in a group biologically because of pheramones, it's wholly likely that the differences in biology that makes people with ADHD the most successful hunters and warriors in history also possibly predisposes the o-positive blood types (as an example) to suffer (perhaps) from hypoglycemia.

I certainly don't discount blood-type theory. But I think there are other predisposing factors as well.

        It's all fascinating!

You know those people who eat whatever they want and stay thin? We tend to say they have a fast metabolism. I wonder if they all tend to be a particular blood type, like A, or B? It would be interesting to find out. Next time you see a very thin person eating some Crispy Creme donuts, ask them what their blood type is

I am a B type and I cannot eat whatever and stay thin. I have however lost over 50 lbs before when I became a vegetarian. But Atkins is working for me as well. I do know when I tried the whole low fat thing I was contantly hungry and tired and lost very little weight.

I'm Type B too. And I gained weight as a low fat vegetarian and vegan! Reducing carbs and eating healthier carbs has been the only thing that's worked for me.

It's actually A types that are supposed to be "vegetarians" according to the blood type theory. I just meant that I doubted that the eat anything and stay thin people are probably not O. That's all. Sorry for the confusion.

I work with a very skinny man who eats alot. He comes into work, sits down and eats pretzels, nuts, and an apple. He has lunch and it's a sandwich, an oatmeal pie, a chocolate ding dong, another apple and juice. At last break he's buying something sugary from the vending machine. He doesn't do any exersice outside of work. He's tall and thin and has even lost 4 lbs. in the last 3 months!

I don't think I could live like he does and keep my weight down. Plus, he has to take meds for high cholesterol while mine is fine. The point I'm getting to (finally) is that we are both the same blood type of A+. I sometimes think about becoming a vegetarian but I don't think I would like it. So, I'm leary about that "eat for your blood type" book.

                      :nono

Ya I went on the Susan low fat plan once and I actually gained a few pounds. I still felt tired after I ate and had no energy.
When I went on Atkins for the first time it was like an awakening, I came out of a fog, everything was clear. I had more energy and felt more alert. I think at the time I may have been developing type2 diabetis, I was insulin resistant, my body was producing so much insulin after I ate carb foods that I had trouble staying awake, it was like I was being drugged.

I had a look at that site but couldn't get past the first few posts - not because of what was said but because my 55 year old eyes could not take red text on black :yikes
What webdesigner decided on that combination? Or was it MY computer with the wrong settings?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
