I have a theory about this. Have you guys ever read Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type? It basically states that depending on your blood type, different diets might or might not work for you. Low-fat vegetarian definitely does not work for me, but it does work for others. Supposedly, Type A are natural vegetarians, meaning, they thrive on grains and veggies. Type O are natural hunters and gatherers, meaning, they thrive on higher fat, meat, seafood, etc, with no grains, and some veggies. Type B thrive on a lower fat diet that is a combination of meat, grains, veggies. I am type O, and was vegetarian for years, and became sicker and fatter. In fact, i was most ill when I was vegan. So I guess the moral of my story is, what's good for you and I might not be good for everyone. But.......I'm willing to bet that the people that can eat "whatever they want" (i.e, sugar sugar sugar in all of its forms) and stay thin are NOT Type O. Also, Type O is the most common blood type, which is probably why Atkins works so well for so many.
That's just my theory based on some research I have done.
Any comments are welcome
