  • Are You Eaing Your Veggies? Challenge #1

    HAVE YOU BEEN EATING YOUR VEGGIES?


    VEGGIE CHALLENGERS UNITE!!!!
    THIS IS ANOTHER BOARDWIDE CHALLENGE!

    This challenge is for any Member of the ADBB, from Induction to Maintenance. The purpose is get us out of our habit of depending on our great cheeses and hamburgers, the added grains and dairy, and start being more diligent about adding those all important, vitamin fortified, vegetables!


    THIS IS AN 7 DAY CHALLENGE
    APRIL 23 THRU APRIL 29

    Here are the particulars:
    First, you have to sign up in this thread! You must state what rung/phase you are on: Induction, OWL or Maintenance. You must be willing to chart your veggie NET carbs for the 7 days of the challenge AND be ready to share your accomlishment at the end of the challenge.

    If you are doing Induction, your challenge is to eat 12 to 15 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.
    If you are in any phase of OWL, your challenge is to eat 17 to 20 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.
    If you are on Maintenance, your challenge is to eat 22 to 25 NET carbs of veggies each day during the challenge.

    Feel free to post the veggie pushing old man graphic in your signature to signify that you are a Veggie Challenger. After you've completed your veggie eating ways, with success, you'll be able to trade the old guy for a head of cauliflower!

    WHAT A DEAL!




    Now, here's some helpful hints:
    • If you are tracking your foods already in a fitday or similar type of program, keep that up and pay particular attention to how many NET carbs of veggies you are getting. If you don't have an account, YOU CAN SET ONE UP or make sure to log on a piece of paper or in your ADBB JOURNAL STATS journal the amount of veggie NET carbs you are eating. You may also use this thread on a daily basis to report your veggie NET carbs for the day.
    • Don't wait till the end of day and try to hit the mark in all one sitting. Spread those veggie carbs throughout the day.
    • The following links will help you with the numbers.

    Watch for the posting of Veggies R Good 4 U puzzle. Maybe you can chomp on a carrot or some jicama chips while you work that!

        i tested this a bit yesterday with my fitday. i posted ONLY the veggies and it provided me with the carbs and fiber counts. easy peasy.

          Yikes I guess I am in! I'm an OWLer so I'm in for 17-20. You know, I've never paid attention to how many VEGGIE carbs I've been eating...just the amounts/serving sizes. This should be interesting!

            Hmmmm... I'm a little apprehensive about this, but I'll give it a try. I always get the amount of veggies in but I know the carb counts are sometimes low. There are a lot of days that 2 of my daily cups are either romaine or spring mix and those have hardly any carbs. This should help me venture into the different veggies.

            OWL so I'm in for 17-20.

              i have to tell you that even at goal, even at maintenance i will probably have a bit of a struggle with this, too! as a test for this challenge i logged my veggies yesterday and i missed my 22 to 25 by 1 net carb yesterday.

                Ok, I'm up for trying this one too! Veggies are SO tough for me, maybe this will be my motivator to get them all in!

                Induction: so I'm gonna stick to 15-17 Net carbs per day!

                  Wait a minute, I know I'm eating all the food I'm allowed (believe me I am) but my veggie carb count is the lowest. How do I increase it and still stay within my carb limit? Twelve to fifteen seems very high.

                    most of your carbs should be coming from veggies.
                    As we know, DANDR says

                    3. Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables. You can eat approximately three cups-loosely packed-of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see the list of acceptable vegetables

                    half of the 20 net carbs per day during induction would 10 so 12 to 15 would be considered most.
