    One thing that I've done is make a PLAN notebook...(I know, I'm obcessive)...but a notebook that has nothing but plans in it for different occassions I've encountered.

    Now, when I go somewhere (like a conference)..I have my packing list and my plan of action right there. I just skim through it and away I go.

    I have hospital plan, vacation plan, conference plan, overnight in the truck plan, weekend plan, dinner to relative plan, dinner to 'other' plan, breakfast/brunch plan with friends, Holiday recipes/dinner/lunch plan, Party plan, Pot luck plan, Birthday party plan, barbecue plan, and a daily outing plan.

    I don't have time each time I go somewhere to stop and make a plan and found it difficult to do so, so now I have all my plans made and sometimes I'll change a few things, but I find it easier to just go to that page and do what I did previously.

    I also have extra DANDRs (which I've bought several at the thrift shop for .25) and I keep 1 in my suitcase. I have one in my car and one by my computer. Like I said, I am obcessive but I never want to be caught off guard.

      becky, that made me think of something else i do.
      i have a diary of sorts that i take with me if we are doing a road trip or i won't be able to get on a computer for days at a time.
      i record my food and my exericse. partly so i can log my challenge totals in the right threads but also so i can have a ready reminder of keeping on track. truthfully, it's hard to sit down and pig out and not exercise when you have your diary and book sitting there in front of you.

        2. How would you plan to stay the course for......

        • a BBQ with non Atkins food? Depending on where we are going and how long we will be there - I would either eat before hand or bring food. I'm already bringing food for my kiddos, so its not a bother to pack for myself too.
        • a friends wedding? I would eat the salad. I'm not a cake or dessert person, so no big deal saying no to that.
        • the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner?We do thanksgiving at home, so I have control over my meal choices. Christmas we travel to my IL's for a bit, none of the food there is legal so I would eat before hand and pack some food.
        • a day of overwhelming chores? I have to prepare for long days a few times a week. I take my son to Dr's appts, OT/ST visits - they are all a long ride from us - I pack a small cooler for the car with lots of water bottles and legal foods.
        • a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday? vacation, whats that? lol - We don't take vacations, my youngest just wouldn't make such an adjustment. If we were to go on a vacation, we have always gone to a hotel with a kitchen and brought our own food - so we would just do the same.
        • keeping up with your exercise while in unique situations such as hotel stays and days of travel in cars - I always have my kiddos to chase, no matter where I go. On the days when we have long car rides there are always long walks that follow. The hotels we have stayed at in the past had excercise rooms, I would definitely take advantage of that if we ever did take a vacation.

          Jimmie, that's an excellent idea about making my own BDay dessert. Do you have the recepie? Oh, and I also read that you lived near the Gulf Coast for 25 years. Wow! Me too. Deep south Texas, border with Mexico.

              Sorry about the abbreviation on Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. I was in a hurry. I also take my journal with me all the time. I like to write out how I feel and things that have happened to me when I'm sitting at the park with the kids, dr's office, or wherever. Yep, being prepared is half the battle!

                Positive things about me.
                Tall, trustworthy, smart, beautiful, sweet and easy to get along with.

                Positiveeffects of this WOE
                1. Lots more energy and I want to stay outside more.
                2.More confidence in myself
                3. More compliments from others.

                Negative habits
                1. I love sweets-I'm learning to eat more homemade legal treats.
                2.My lateness.-Setting my alarm clock earlier so that I can get up earlier.
                3. Procrastination-Make sure I complete what I started and in a timely manner.
                Like sticking to this way of eating.

                These assignments really make you think.

                  1. My eyes, generosity...hmmm..can't think of an idea-now have thought for #3.

                  2. I only recently started Atkins and then stopped due to a stomach virus so I really havent' done it too long. I have done it before and it worked very well. I was never hungry. I lost a lot of weight. My self-esteem went up.

                  3. Self-esteem right now is the biggest negative about me. I am sure this challenge will help that as well as staying on the WOE and losing weight. Another negative would be my lack of will power. This has been a major fault for any weight loss effort I have ever tried. I need to set some minor goals for staying on track for short periods of time.

                    Keeping in mind, that you are committed to getting to goal and you are WORTH IT, and stating the postitive things this WOE has done for you, how would you plan to stay the course for......
                    • a BBQ with non Atkins food? Call ahead to see what meat and veggies may be available. Prepare a dish or 2 to bring. Eat before I go.
                    • a friends wedding? Check what main dish is..see if possible to speak to hall with what is in meal. Ask for extra salad.
                    • the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner? Bring dishes. Ask family to prepare a couple low carb options.
                    • a day of overwhelming chores? Enjoy a nice piece of cheese. Have a nice treat prepared ahead of time.
                    • a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday? Ask about possible hidden carbs-ask to swap out items. Possibly request a fridge in your hotel to keep some low carb items.
                    • keeping up with your exercise while in unique situations such as hotel stays and days of travel in cars When stopping for a break park as far back in the parking lot as possible. Pack some small hand weights in bag to do simple exercise routines in hotel room.

                      Hi!

                      Well, it was stress and not being prepared for after my hospital stay and subsequent recovery that did me in on my first go-round with Atkins. I went to the doctor on a Tuesday for what I thought was a bladder infection. For the next 3 days of that week, I had tests done on each day and checked in the hospital the following Monday. For the next 4 days I was there, I was fine. They had an extensive menu I could choose from, and it went well. My recovery period was very rough, though... I didn't have much time before going into the hospital, and even the doctor was not sure how long it would take for me to recover, because it was an unusual condition I had fixed. I ended up being hooked up to a catheter for 38 days after the surgery. I was exhausted and depressed during this time, and was not able to do kitchen duty. I relied upon well-meaning friends and family to provide meals for me and my family, and was in such a funk that I basically gave up my Atkins lifestyle. So, I commend you Becky, on your pre-planning.

                      Hey, can y'all believe that I rarely use my freezer?! I hate meat that has been frozen first. I have never cooked extra stuff to freeze for later. So, as you can guess, I am at the grocery store at least every 3 days. I am sure that this quirk of mine sets up the potential for trouble at some point.

                      I am off to complete my written assignment and will return soon to post it.

                        here is part two of your homework assignment.

                        2. After the discussion, answer the following in this thread and in your journal:

                        • a BBQ with non Atkins food? ~A BBQ is usually pretty easy to plan around. Every time I visit my dad, he cooks for me with BBQ. He knows about and respects my WOE, and is happy to cook what I need. If it is somewhere else, I don't mind bringing what I need to eat.
                        • a friends wedding? ~ Very timely! On June 23rd, my niece that I work for is getting married. And this is going to be one big event! It is a formal evening wedding at a very nice place, and the reception immediately follows there. I am going to eat before I go. I'm not going to bring anything with me, because it is easy to go 3 hours without eating when you are full. I have been to a couple of her wedding showers, and there was mountains of food at each one. I was very satisfied with the veggie and cheese platters there.
                        • the Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinner? ~ Thank goodness there is usually some sort of meat at these kind of holiday dinners (usually turkey), and I always bring side dishes and dessert.
                        • a day of overwhelming chores? ~ I always keep cut up veggies and cheese sticks in the fridge; perfect for these kind of days.
                        • a vacation or as our UK members would state it, a holiday? ~ I always bring an ice chest full of low carb stuff, and my family is great about going to the restaurants that are sure to have low carb items.
                        • keeping up with your exercise while in unique situations such as hotel stays and days of travel in cars. ~ My pilates DVD's came with a card that lists and describes the exercises for a complete workout, so I bring that... all you need is the floor! Usually we go to places that require us to walk around all day, so that is good.

                          i forgot all about that! we had our own cooler frig but at one hotel that jack stayed in during his katrina fema work, he did ask for a frig and they gave him one. it was great when i got there and what you explain is exactly what i did. i went and bought some fresh veggies and pepperoni for snacking.

                            mitzi, i have a dvd of stab. ball work and gave my book to a friend back home. i'll bet she never even cracked the book and there have been so many times i wish i had just copied it off for her.

                            word to the wise: make copies so you can keep the books from these programs. then, if you don't have access to the tv, you can still get a work out in.
