  • Re: I Am Worth It Challenge ~ Thursday Assignment

    Hey everyone,

The first person to leap to mind that is really on the ball with the Atkins WOL and who has helped me a lot is Julie When I was thinking perhaps this diet wasn't for me she was understanding and made me realise that actually, it really is for me. I can't find this post anywhere - sorry! Also with technical questions on running, or adding back foods, and when I was starving all the time she was one of the first to reply and post great advice. So big thanks Julie

    Quotes from signatures:
    - 'I choose to make decisions that yield results' (Joy) this is a great phrase for all areas of life!

    - This is a journal name, but a great one: 'Failure is NOT an Option' (TNM)

    - 'Procedi Con Calma' which I believe is Proceed with Calm, Jimmie? Love that one as I am a big panicker...

    - 'Don't Regret Anything that Ever Made You Smile' (Emma)

    - This is a repeat from above but it's a great one: 'A Plan Without a Goal is Just a Wish' (Biogeek)

Will head over to the thread now

Ya know, i've been sat here thinking about this for an hour or so, the longest ive ever had to spend on "home work" so it sucks miss Jo!! Not because i cant think of anyone, its just, i cant work out which person has inspired me the most!! theres so many, so i'm really stuck! this board is just full of so many wonderful inspiring people and i would feel bad to name just one! but if i name more than one i'm gonna miss someone and feel bad *sigh*

Okay, imma name a few most prolly from my first time around, Babyphat, Loonatika, Richt, Dreamof145, Elizellen, Higgies, Kent, Validrouge, ttdriver, jimmie48, there is of course many many more, but these are the people who i can think of and cant choose between.

      2. Find 5 positive remarks in the signaures of other members and quote them here.

There are so many positive, wonderful, supportive people on this board that is was very hard to choose! I struggled a little, but I finally chose OutbackJess. I rarely see posts from her that aren’t positive. Every time she starts one of the roll calls on the STAC forum, they are always positive, motivating, and supportive. She’s had a lot going on in her life the last several months, but she continues to be a beacon for all of us – definitely for me! Here is an example of one of her opening roll call posts in the STAC forum:

        June 10, 2007

Good morning STACer's wow such a great responce yesterday for those who want to be here in a year. I thought about that alot yesterday as I read the responces.
I was wondering, as you check in today, what will be your one year anniversary.
I will be here a year on August 1st, 2007. That's the day I started Atkins.
That's the day I was totally ready to change my life. I was so emotional, such a mess with fatigue, mood swings irritability and I had just come back from a week's vacation with my whole family and I was exhausted and depressed and sure I was ruining my body, and mind on sugars...(which I was).
After I got started, I plotted out what day was 100, which was Nov 8th. I then joined the cheat free challenge. I added that to my siggy. "Cheat free day____. It motivated me. I was able to have fun and stay focused.
Then of course I started watching and playing with the scales....One day they did not do what I wanted them to and I was so frustrated with them, and then I realized something very important. "No matter what the scales said, there was nothing more I could do"...I mean I drank all my water, ate at induction level, I exercise as best I could at that time. I did everything I could in a day to loose weight and stick to plan. It clicked! Something profound happened, since I was doing every thing already there was nothing more I could do to help it all along, so I best relax and enjoy the process. I quit climbing on the scales that day...I started to feel my body and when it felt good, I just went with the good feeling, because I was doing everything I could.
What day is your 1 yr. anniversary and when will it be day 100 for you?

          boardwork for Thursday:

          1. Think of a member of the ADBB that you believe is a positive influence. Find one positive post of the member and quote it here. Make sure the post has some "meat" to it and not just a word of Congratulations.
this was actually a little difficult. i've been here for nearly 3 years and i've read so many good, positive post by so many. i can think back through all the hostesses that have given, and continue to give, such good vibes and are such a positive influence for so many. i could choose a member of this challenge but i wanted to go outside the "borders"

i've decided to go with a quote by not2late, one of the moderators. she has so much knowledge about our WOE and does not hesitate to answer and inform everyone who hits the 14 Day Induction forum. the quote is a bit lengthy so the link will be given.

          2. Find 5 positive remarks in the signaures of other members and quote them here.
i've listed 6 and i am sure there are plenty more. i particulary like the following.
          1. sarah (iyamamaschke), BELIEVEinYOURSELFandANYTHINGisPOSSIBLE
          2. becky (dreamof145), Gonna stop talkin' about it and make it happen!
          3. tam (Lady_Hawke), A goal, a love and a dream give you total control over your body and your life.
          4. biogeek, A goal without a plan is just a wish. -- Antoine de Saint-Exupery
          5. bugaboo, "Only request in my behalf both inward and outward strength...that I may not merely be called a Christian, but really be found to be one." -- St. Ignatius of Antioch, Epistle to the Romans
          6. stacy (staziaw), Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.

          3. Make a post, if you have not already done so, in the What excuse do you have...... thread. Be sure you read the first post so you know what kind of excuses are being asked for.
i've made quite a few posts in the thread. i'll be making at least one more for this challenge.

This is a great homework assignment, Jo!

              1. Think of a member of the ADBB that you believe is a positive influence. Find one positive post of the member and quote it here. Make sure the post has some "meat" to it and not just a word of Congratulations.

Gosh, this is hard one. Three people come to mind right away (along with numerous others), and it's tough to narrow it down... so I won't:

JOY, for all her support, but especially in my early days here. I kept falling off the wagon, I strongly considered jumping ship to weight watchers, I was a often a whiney butt... yet she stuck with me. I thrived on her encouragement and feedback. Here's one of her most memorable posts to me:
This is where you MUST visualize yourself getting there. Think about how you are going to eat Atkins, never having those bad foods. Those are gone for us now. Find substitutions for them, visualize yourself at parties eating the right foods. Visualize yourself fitting in smaller clothes. Visualize yourself fitting in your GOAL SIZE CLOTHES. Visualize how you are going to look. Visualize how you are going to feel. Visualize all the things you are going to do when you get there.

I think we spend too much time visualizing the pain of missing out, of visualizing failure instead of success. When you change your way of thinking, when you are so focused on the goal....your subconscious will start thinking that way too...and quit getting in your way!

You can do this! What are you going to look like at Goal Adena? What will you be wearing? How will you feel inside?"

JESS, for always challenging me, asking the tough questions, helping me realize how important goal setting and looking ahead are. I'll also always be grateful to Jess for making the lightbulb go on for me that, when I was training for my half marathon, I was starving (and cheating!) b/c MY BODY NEEDED MORE FUEL. Well, duh! Seems so obvious now, but it was big revelation then and continues to help me. Jess has had so many thoughtful quotes, but the one I'll share here is short and sweet, and sums up Jess and what she stands for (and what she gives me) in just a few words:
I want to be here in a year, thriving.... I want to BE a runner... Let's go....We've got a diet to follow, a race to run, and a lifestyle to maintain!!!
JULIE, for her constant encouargement (or wet noodle lashings, as needed) in a way that always makes me smile. She sets an AWESOME, nearly flawless example of living this lifestlye. She's like the fun, cool, act-completely-together big sister I never had (never mind that she's 10 years younger than I am). Her encouragement on my running and fitness is constant; making me feel like a role model (whether true or not!) did wonders for my own motivation.
Do you realize you are inspiring members across the board to start running. You're like Forrest Gump! And I bet if you asked you how you got started you'd say "I just stah-ted run-ning".

              I'm so proud of you!

There are so many that I can think of who are fantastic positive influences. However, everytime I read the above, one person comes to mind each time.

Outback Jess mirrors much of my own struggles physically, being roughly the same starting weight, same height, even same age. If she can do this, so can I.

However, she's been doing this inspite of the incredible challeges she faced during this time, posting over and over her refusal to give up this lifestyle. I attempted to mimic her during my own (much smaller) trials recently; unfortunately, my stomach didn't cooperate. Still, even as I try to get back on Atkins fulltime, she's my primary influence:

Self control, let's keep working to establish our self control....most all of this BOILS DOWN TO SELF CONTROL! - Jess

Luv ya to pieces, Jess!! Thank you for all you are and all that you do!

I choose Elizellen, one of our moderators. She was one of the first people I read, and met on this board. I like the way she’s verbally quiet about her huge accomplishment, and yet her siggy pics tell it all.
Here’s a quote from her that’s brief, to the point and 100% right on:

"The others have said it, no real way of knowing how much weight you can lose in that time, but stick to eating on-plan, drink your water and exercise and I am sure you will be a loser!!”

I had a few months of emotional eating after my father died. To me, that was a great excuse to veer off plan. I kept telling myself that it's okay, I can get right back on track. So, after a few months I realize it's not okay. I have been eating this way for years, and years so frankly, there is no excuse.

Now, my excuse for not eating improperly is that this IS my WOE. I don't care what others think of the way I eat, this is what works and makes me feel good.

I think the member I most admire is Brook. This is her last post in her journal (currently):

"Okay, so I'm running around these days chasing my tail. The problem is that it's getting easier to see because my tail is getting bigger. Much bigger.

I haven't stepped on a scale in about 2 weeks and that's because I know it's going to groan when I step on it. I'm betting I'm sitting at about 162-164ish right now & that's just not okay.

So, I'm not going to pretend that menu prep, shopping and meal times are plausible right now. We're doing the big move this weekend from the apartment to the house. My LIFE is scattered in boxes everywhere between the two places. I can, however, make better choices for the on-the-go thing we've got going on right now.

So...I'll be back around here. It's been too long. As much as I like to pretend I'm generally invincible, it turns out I do much better when I'm posting regularly. I need the accountability. (Shhh. Don't tell anyone. LOL)"

Granted, on the surface there is not really anything very powerful about this particular post. However, knowing what a whirlwind her life is and continues to be (mostly beyond her control even), the post reflects a certain honesty about her. She went from being almost 240lbs and has reached her goal of 149 on two seperate occasions. Given everything she has gone through, she is about as invincible as people get. When she has it really rough, she might gain a few lbs, but then she's right on top of things again. She never fails to encourage others to keep as consistent as they can - just by her example alone.

Five siggy quotes I really like:

2 from ValidRouge: 11. I will pay attention to even the small, seemingly inconsequential decisions due to the fact that I am simply the cumulative impact of many "small decisions."
                      33. Endurance - I can outlast the problem I am overcoming

I can't remember whose it was but I really liked this quote someone had in their siggy a while back: "Dieting will make you look good in clothes; exercise will make you look good without them."

kkat: "A year from now you'll wish you started today."

Labarum: Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                      he said, 'Don't count calories.'
                      27 F 5' 7"

After baby and current restart: 210/207/120

good morning friends! well, i am gonna CHEAT today. i have been reading this thread and i love it. i did not join this challenge. right now, with 2 weeks to go to the wedding, i am having trouble even remembering what day it is. i knew i would not be able to keep up and do the work justice....and as i told jimmie, i'd get sent to detention or get an F for sure! that being said, even tho i am not in the challenge i just wanted to post a note here.

i came aboard this BB i think in march. i had done atkins before. i have had nothing but wonderfully positive experiences here. EVERYONE i have come across has inspired me in some way. your stories, your struggles, your experiences, your jokes, your pictures.....all of you have shared yourselves in personal ways that impact our greater BB community more than you know. i would have a tough time choosing one person who has influence me the most so i am gonna take the easy way out and say to all of you here.....THANK YOU! i really would not have had the success i have had so far without ALL OF YOU. i did not do this by myself. i could not have done it by myself....the book is great info....but the PEOPLE here make it happen. THANK YOU FRIENDS!

Julie not only congratulates me every single time I have good news, but she also makes me feel accountable for my commitments and goals. She dares to do both in a very nice but firm way. I love that! She also takes the time to explain all of my doubts/questions in a very detailed way. I would dare to say more detailed and simply put than in the book. No offense to anyone…..ooooppss! We looked at some Positive things about ourselves and our WOE and WOL.
We have discussed how to Plan and things we can do to be prepared in certain situations.
Now we're going to Learn from others by looking at their motivation, outlook and success.

Can you think of a member of our board, someone who seems to be always at the top of their game in any situation? They think positive, they seem to plan everything that would influence this WOE and WOL.
