OK, I've been standing in for a Drill Sgt in Boot Camp, so I've been tied up (well, not literally, though I'm sure some of the recruits would have liked to!! LOL) So let me catch up here:

Kick it Up a Notch Challenge - Started 08/11/04

JoanOH - Measure foods, record in Fitday, no artif. sweetners - (Ugh, forgot about fitday again.) :sadblinky
Jackie Blue - Monitor carbs, stay away from caffeine :joy
Sillyann - No frankenfoods, no diet colas, no snitching kids' foods :joy
Doitnow - monitor PM carbs, add ab exercises :joy
Shufflebutt - Drink water, keep food journal, exercise :joy
AmyTheobald - Record on Fitday, stop Diet Rites, more water :joy
lostandfound - fitday, water, monitor carbs :joy
Jennykins - More water, monitor carbs :joy
Tamariah - clean induction :sadblinky - no ice cream :joy

Need updates from: :whip :whip :whip
BabyOm - Monitor carbs, make exercise a priority, water

    Just joined us - 08/22
Brats4 - Cut back on cream; Control Portions; no grazing; measure foods

I think we're doing pretty well!! Starting tomorrow I will get back to fitday -- have just been pretty busy with Boot Camp -- but that's not an excuse!! No excuses!!! I *will* do better!!

Keep up the good work!! Try and update every 3 days, if you can.

Joan, you are such a nag! Good thing I like that in a person!

I've been doing really well with the PM carbs until tonight :nono. It's raining buckets here and I'm using that as an excuse. Yes, I know, way to flimsy to be believable. I've done my ab work every other night, but I was going to skip tonight, cause I'm feeling lazy.

Good thing that you sensed my malaise with your super enhanced Atkins Spidey Sense! Time to do my sit-ups...right now!

Yes, you are correct -- it WAS my superb spidey sense-o-meter in action (throwing my cape around neck) that caught you being NEARLY negligent!.....

The mantra of the day is:

        NO EXCUSES... :whip :whip :whip

(as she skuttles off to quickly post her foods on fitday before everyone finds her out).

        HA!

Okay. Here's my (overdue, thanks for the reminder, Joan :wave ) progress report:

Doing better on water...getting at least 100 oz. per day, which for me is just a TON. I know, I know, I should drink more. I'm working towards my next goal of 120 oz. per day. I'm just pacing myself :yes

I've done better on monitoring carbs, so I haven't gone over 25 carbs on any given day (except for the elephant ear at the fair, but that was on purpose).

So far, so good. But I can always do better.

Still hanging on with no caffeine and posting on FitDay. Also dropped a pound this week and walked 3 days this week, though I should do at least 5 days.

Thanks JoanOH for keeping us all straight!

                  GOOD MORNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, we kicked it up a notch.

Everyone's doing pretty well on their changes.... so NOW what???? What can you do to kick it up ANOTHER notch???

Now, you didn't think this challenge was going to be THAT easy, did you??

My new "extra" : I am going to give up ALL processed meats for the week. You have to understand -- I'm a salami and cream cheese-aholic. But it's too much sodium, too much fillers -- I'm giving it up for a week (and hopefully longer).

Line up!!! Who's next??? C'mon -- challenge yourself!

Oh I'm not a member of the 100+ but would love to do this challenge. I have been slacking on the measuring dept too and think perhaps too much cream and not enough balance. My DH is coming home from a long TDY next week and I am going to have to learn to incorporate my foods into family meals. The summer was easy cause kids were happy with fish sticks, hot dogs and easy mac. LOL. Now I'm determined to learn how to make family size atkins meals for everyone. This challenge would help me with the guidelines.

You're MORE than welcome to join us, Brats! Can you state what your challenge/goal is? I see measuring food, cut back on cream, anything else?

All you need to do for this challenge is report in every 2-3 days and let us know how you're doing. If you don't.... I track you down and remind you! :guns

I am hanging in there being adequately hydrated and using diet rite as an occasional treat rather than an every day necessity...I am doing well on fitday as well! My new challenge will be to increase my veggie intake... for some reason I just am not getting in my 3-4 cups of veggies a day!

Ok Joan - my 'extra' will be to walk 5 days this week instead of the usual 2-3 and to give up the Mon-Fri morning coffee (with cream and splenda).

Great! I want to go to controlled portions. I started off that way but lately find myself picking during preparation etc. So basic goals:

                            Cut back on cream
                            Control Portions w/eliminating prep grazing
                            Measure, measure, measure

I weigh in tomorrow. I did not have ice cream. I did have a scone one day. But no ice cream!
JoanOH Thank you for the pm! You came hunting me when I didn't show here, and I appreciate it! :hug

I'm glad you reported in! I was actually think about you today, and a little worried. Glad you haven't given in to the ice cream -- but scones?? ahemm... I don't quite remember seeing those on the Induction list, but maybe I just missed them :yikes

I've been asking this question of people all day. What caused you to eat that scone -- and what can you do different next time??
