However a bit of progress has been made over here this weekend. I only have 3 pounds to go before Halloween. Will my body let go of the 3 pounds before the 31st? I have no idea.

But, as of today... I have officially now lost 7 pounds... wow, that really was like pulling teeth without novacaine...LOL!
I'll ask the Whooshie Fairy to pay you a visit!! Cher you definitely deserve one!

Is it too late to start? I saw this challenge posted and started on my own without joining the thread. Since October 5th when I restarted induction, I've lost 8lb. Only 2 to go!

I just did a double check to see where I am. So, I went back to read the beginning of the Halloween thread. When we started, I was 163 and trying to fit in a size 6 jeans. I was wearing a size 8 then.... I can now fits some size 4's, that's not so bad!
            But, hey folks I'm, 5' 8 1/2" tall.

The, next weigh-in happens and I'm at 167 and holding for something like over one month. (Sigh of relief... that's over)! Finally, I'm at 155.5 today... but, still not at my Halloween goal of 153.

The questions is ... will I or won't I make that Halloween goal. If it's judged by sizing... I'm feeling pretty good. If it's judged by the heart... I'm here to stay... so, I'm still feeling pretty good. If it's judge by the scale...

It'll probably be Christmas before I see those last 2 pounds go away.... but, I hope not!

Either way, I'll be in the next challenge, cause I never give up... and I need to lose 10 more pounds!

Cher, what an awesome post!!!!! I tried to give you some reputation, but I have to spread it around some first LOL

Anyway, I'm not going to make the 10 lbs by halloween either, but you know what...I'm happy because I am firmly in ONDERLAND yay!!!! And I did it being SMOKE FREE yay!!!!!!! And we have to realize that we are within 10 lbs of our original goals, so that 10 lbs is going to come off SLOW. Remember, Dr. A said as we get to those last 10 lbs it's supposed to come off at a rate of .5 lb per week on average. I can't help but think of sillygirl with us in the challenge before this one....where she didn't lose, but stuck it out with all of us who were still in the honeymoon phase LOL

I want to reassess my goal once I get to 185. I might reset to 175. We'll just have to get to those original goals first.

I'm so glad we're in this together.

                Joy,

All that matters...is that we stay until we reach goal... and then we stay until that s-t-i-c-k-s for a long time! And, in many ways... we have reached many goals .... it has just been in our bodies time...LOL! Our bodies have shown us! But, look how close you are to goal, only 11 pounds away... and looking awesome... bathing suit beauty!

So, if it takes until Christmas to get there... so be it. And, if we both change our goals another 10 pounds and it takes until next Christmas... well... you'll just have to visit Southern California next time... or I'll see you between Thanksgiving and Christmas in Ft. Lauderdale somewhere... LOL!

After reading those last few posts, I've started wondering, because of the drastic slowdown in my weight loss rate the last 2-3 months, whether perhaps it is my destiny to reach a final weight more appropriate for my age than the goal I set based on my college days. My mother recently said to me I shouldn't need to try to lose much more, too. And last week I noticed a 5'7" newbie with her goal set to around my mini-goal... hmmm. Feedback appreciated...

Anyway, enough pondering for the moment:
I have (tentatively) lost another pound - to 178 - which if is still gone tomorrow I will report for my treat.

Susan, while I'm no where near goal, I am 5'7"... or 5'8" depending on who meaures me... but I'd agree that 135 seems a little low. Of course, it depends on the size of your frame. I have a large frame. At 135, I'd be quite slim. I'm sure that would look great -- but I just don't think it's realistic for me.

I think you may want to consider moving your goal up quite a bit... at least up to 150 or even 160. And then, like Cher and Joy, as you get closer to it, you can consider moving it back down again in 5 pound increments.

Just my two cents. You're looking great already. Best of luck!

                      Susan,

I'm not sure who should be the judge of our weights... but it should never be judged by Newport Beach standards...everyone would be anorexic!

My first goal 6 or 7 years ago was 165, and I was really happy when I reached that goal. Then, I changed the goal to 155 and very slowly went down to 155. I was at goal, but something happened. Before I knew it, my weight started dropping again and within three months I dropped down to 135. I wasn't trying to lose that weight; it was just what my body decided to do. I stayed between 127 and 135 for around 5 years until last year.

Here's the feedback I got at 127 - 135... everyone wanted to put me in the hospital… they thought I was becoming anorexic. My doctor put me on 3 or 4 headache medicines (supposedly) that caused a 50-pound weigh gain on purpose because he thought I was anorexic and afraid to eat. All of that was recorded in his notes to another doctor.

So, this is what I think (of course, I'm afraid to give advice for fear that anyone would take it...LOL). Set a goal that is very realistic for you. Something that makes you feel comfortable with your body. Maybe 165 or 160, like Adena said, just for now. See how you feel at 165. You can always reset your goal for 155 and lose more after you reach that goal.

The challenge is just to help motivate all of us. It’s a support system to help keep us on track. I’m better for being a part of this challenge even if I don’t make the entire 10 pounds. Releasing the weight is up to the body! We’re just the ones who have to follow the program.

Once in a while we’re not perfect. But, what I’ve learned about living Atkins is… there is no perfection… if you have a ‘bad moment’ you just jump right back on program – that’s living life the Atkins way. That’s how I maintained 127 – 135 for 5 years the last time without gaining weight.

On my end, everyone is already asking me not to lose any more weight. But, I feel like I need to get down to at least 145 again. If I worked out more... I think I would be OK at 150!

Ultimately… just be gentle and loving with your body… that’s when the body will give the weight away!

                        Hello Ladies,
Well I have been MIA. Was away for a week. First part of the trip was pleasure and second part buisness. It is good to be home. Well I thought I was goin gto be in trouble. The first 3 days that were pleasure were all catered meals... YIKES, and all they did was feed us, teh food was phenomenal. I stuck to plan 99.9% of the time, jsut went a few rungs higher then I would consistently eat. Then, the second part I ate out all meals. I had a lot of salads and some soups, hoping there were not lots of hidden ingredients making them illegal.

Well, so, I felt blaoted and fat tthe whole trip. sitting in a hotel room, and aclasses all day BLAH.. I was dreading the scale this am. But, to my surprise, I am down 3#'s. So, anther 3 for me. No way I will meet the goal of the sencond ten I thought I might before Halloween, but, I will take this.

Glad to se you are all hanging in there!!!

                          WTG, Billie-Jo!!

Adena & SweetCher, thanks for your input & encouragement.

The long & short of Atkins as I see it today is, even if it takes over 20 years to end up at goal (that's how long it took to gain what I'm trying to loose), or if I don't ever get there, at least being on this diet has spared me from the destiny I was facing before I started this WOL.

When I started this past spring, I'd been gaining at roughly 10 pounds per month, which were it not for this WOE would put me at approximately 290 pound today, 310 by Jan. '07, 430 by 1/08, 550 by 1/09, and 670 by 2010. For my DS's 16th birthday, he might get to be a pallbearer for his mom!

Needless to say, that alone is good enough reason to keep with this program!! Add to that, the difference in physical health, mental health, the things I'm capable of doing, and even the disappearance of mid-afternoon sleep attacks following high carb lunches is additional potent reinforcement not stray far from the wagon. All that is needed is for me to keep the above fresh in my head.

Adn seeng 178 again today doesn't hurt, either!!!

Been MIA too. Wow it looks like there are some real losers here. Congratulations, gosh some are nearly at 20 pounds lost, amazing.

Down 1 pound this week. Had a standstill for a number of weeks, gained some muscle (good) and it now seems things are moving again.

Keep up the good work everyone.
