Mine has maltodextrin as a binder. Here is what I found on it.
"You know I have become obsessed with reading labels, and since I keep coming across maltodextrin I decided to find out what it really is.

Maltodextrin is an easily digestible carbohydrate made from rice, corn or potato starch. It's a white powder used in processed foods as a thickener, or a filler since it's fairly inexpensive. Also used in pharmaceuticals as a binding agent, it is also found in sugar substitutes, like Splenda for example.

Maltodextrin is made by cooking down the starch, and then acid and/or enzymes break the starch down even further, kind of like what the body does to digest carbohydrates. It's usually used in such small amounts, so it doesn't have a significant impact in terms amount of protein, fat, carbohydrate, or fiber. Every gram of maltodextrin has 4 calories, which is not really a significant caloric load."

So what should I do? Should I not take my supplements? I really don't have the extra money right now to go buy more

      Re: OPERATION "NO SWEETS" CHALLENGE

Since my yeast problem, I had to buy almost all new supplements. Nature Made supplements are REALLY good--99% of them are yeast-, gluten-, dairy-, sugar-, and wheat-free. They are a bit more expensive, but well worth it. Usually, the cheaper the product, the more added sugars/starches/"stabilizers".

        Hello Porcelain,
Forunately this is a "No Sweets" Challenge and not a No"Starch from rice, corn or potatoes" Challenge. It certainly will not exclude you from this Challenge.

One of Lipton's machines uses a "tea extract" that has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it as a "stabilizer"! In fact, you'll need to watch everything. I once found Barney's coffee Winter blend actually has powdered sugar in their coffee grounds!!!!!
          Thanks for the info Joy
Yes, I'm real leery of all dispensed drinks. I only drink water, or water, w/ lemon, fresh ginger & cucumber, or herb tea. Nothing else.

oh yay. That was the only thing that worried me. I am going to have to make my own mayo but I can actually do without it. i rarely use it. I eat very simply. I don't really make recipes. I cook meat and I cut up veggies. I usually eat my veggies raw and I don't add anything to them such as dips, dressings, seasonings, etc. This is good in one aspect but in another aspect, this is what causes me to struggle to get enough fat. lol. On days I eat things like wings, they are fine becuase I eat Marie's chunky bleu cheese dressing.

                  Hello Challengers,
The time is near to say goodbye to sweetners and hello to not having all the dangerous and hazardous side effects they create. I hope that all of you have taken the time to prepare your environment and your mind for a successful challenge.
Throughout the challenge, I will be passing information on to you that I have gathered throughout my 32 days of "No Sweets". As i'm sure to get much feedback on, we will be discussing these subjects throughout the challenge.
Thank you for your participation and I wish all of you Better Health and Lite.
                  Sincerely, Sherri

I got my ingredients today to make homemade mayo. I am going to use grapeseed oil.

I will probably use it to make some face cream too.

Let us know how that turns out, Porcelain. My grandmother used to make the best homemade mayo! Yum. I sure do miss it. The problem is, I don't have her recipe. I'll have to ask my Dad if he knows it....

                        Any exceptions for this challenge?

Here's the deal. My Oscal (calcium + vit D) has corn syrup solids in it. The note for it states it adds "a dietarily insignificant amount of sugar." I usually take three of these a day to keep the calcium in my blood up there.

If I don't take these, my blood calcium drops dangerously low. One is not enough, two is so-so, three is when I feel good. (3 = 1.5 grams of calcium)

I was really considering signing up for the challenge this morning and reading through all this to get the skinny on it all. There's no way I will give up the Oscal - every doctor I've talked to about this prefer Oscal over any other calcium supplements, it's what was given to me along with the calcium drip in ER, and I can always feel the difference when I'm on "calcium fumes".

If this isn't acceptable, that's ok. I was about to get on board with this and still will on my own - just can't take a chance on my health and winding up in ER again.

Oh, BTW, better check your toothpaste, folks. Xylitol (from birch trees - which, of all things, I'm allergic to) is in some toothpastes because it's supposed to be good for your teeth.

Wishing everyone the best on this challenge...

                              Good Morning Terry,
Any chance you can change brands of your Calcium W/D Supplement that doesn't have corn syrup solids in it? It would only be for 32 days. I take Liquid filled Calcium W/D Softgels made by Spring Valley. It has no glutin, wheat, milk, lactose, sugar, artificial preservatives, artificial flavors, sodium or chemical solvents. I find it to be an excellent source of calcium w/D. Also find it to be very effective. I'm not concerned about the toothpaste since we're not consuming it. You rinse your mouth out without swallowing the paste. I personally use baking soda to brush my teeth. It's also a great anti-fungal. Xylitol, derivitive of hardwood Birch is healthy for your teeth among other things. We will be getting into the benifits of Xyletol later in the challenge.

Hi, guys -- I'm here, and sweetner free today.

I had a really busy week last week, which is why I didn't check in much. And then I fell off the wagon AGAIN, and I swear I think it's because I went on a last "sugar-free" binge... sf candy, lots of Sweetzfree in my tea, etc. Drove me straight back to the real stuff. All the more reason I need this challenge.

I'll be thinking of you guys today. Glad to see several of my good buddies here, too.
