  • Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge

Welcome back Kell, we're happy to see you around =) I'm planing our Thanksgiving menu too. I'm excited to show my famiy that I do get to enjoy food =)

My grandma brought over dinner last night. I was half way done with the fish when she told me she put corn startch in the sauce. I wanted to cry, and I think she could see that I was about to spill tears, so she assured me that she put very little in. I used a ketos stick two hours after I ate dinner and again this morning. Both of them came out deep purple. =) So yea, I'm happy I wasn't knocked out. I did stop eating the sauce when she told me what was in it.

So what are ya'll making for your Thanksgiving dinner that is Atkins friendly?

I am UP two pounds but I just finished TOM so I'm not too worried about that. So I'm HERE and ready to focus. We have our Atkins Thanksgiving menu planned, turkey, fauxtatoes, green beans with berries and cream for dessert...we may make some spinach and sausage quiche muffins to take with us to sub for rolls when the bread basket gets passed around.

So, yeah, hello everyone...sorry for my extended absence!!
Hey, stranger ... good to see you! Your Thanksgiving Day menu sounds delish ... "fauxtatoes" ... lol! We're going that route, too

Glad granny's sauce didn't derail you, hun ... deep purple is always a lovely sight!

We're having roast turkey breast, "fauxtatoes" (I just love that term!), a cranberry jello mold (sugar-free, natch), something green, and I haven't decided what for dessert. I was going to make a pumpkin flan, but I've decided to give my husband pumpkin ice cream, instead () and I'll probably opt for the berries 'n cream for myself. I'll also give him stuffing, too .... I WILL miss the bread stuffing!

I was looking at the many recepies that this fourm has to offer and I found one "stuffing" recepie that sounds great and easy enough. I do have to find the recepie for the flax bread, but other than that I'm excited =)

1 package Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage -- (16 oz)
          3x Flax bread recipe
          1/2 teaspoon Poultry Seasoning
          1 cup Chicken Broth
          2 Eggs -- beaten
          1 cup Onions -- chopped
          1 cup Celery -- chopped
          1/3 cup Butter -- melted
Combine flax bread crumbs, seasoning, broth, and eggs in bowl. Saute onion and celery in butter in skillet. Add Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage and brown. Drain. Add sausage mixture to bowl, stirring well. Spoon into lightly greased 2-quart baking dish. Cover and bake at 325F for 20 minutes.

I was also going to try and make a crustless pumpkin pie using all Atkins friendly food and a pecan crust cheese cake =)

Well, I weighed and measured today and I'm at 218 still but I did lose an inch around bust, abdomen, and hips and 1/2 inch off my waist. I'm going to skip the cheese for a while, ditch that daily glass of Diet Pepsi I've been clinging too and see if it helps. Since I am in perimenopause, I realize there are somethings beyond my power to change and that this is going take longer than of course, I'd like it too. I just want to get below 200 lbs. sooooo bad!!!!

Sookie, losing inches is always great =) so contrats there hun. If you are going to cut out your cheese you may want to start taking a vitamin for your vitamin D an calucium. Also, I think cutting out all soda is great, but on those days that you HAVE to have just a tast I suggest Pepsi One. Now I don't buy pepsi products at all. But you may be interested to know that Pepsi one is made with Splenda....not the aspertime (sp?) like Diet Pepsi.

And one more thing, when I tend to stall a little I increase my veggies a bit and it helps alot.

I'm sending my husband to the store today to get food for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm excited!!!! =)

Thanks Liss, for the pep talk. Logically, I know that inches are better but it would be nice to see some results on the scale since I have been very good. Good to know about Pepsi One but maybe I should just get over it and not drink anything like that anymore. I do take a very good multi mineral vitamin and some other things like flax seed oil. I may boost my calcium though. I'll try the veggies too, thanks. So maybe next Sunday, I'll see some action on that scale.

Good morning Norah and Liss and everbody,
Liss, I've haven't tried any of the recipes here yet. I'm afraid I might get carried away, so I don't know anything about Atkins friendly flax bread recipes. I'm sure there's a recipe or two though, if it can be done
                      Okay, time to walk.

                                Hey Sookie,
I am surgically menopausal and have been since 29. I totally hear ya on the changes and I think thats why I have gained as much as I did. I have really felt that I couldnt drop the pounds because of my menopausal state.
That being said...I proved myself wrong.
In the first week of my diet I dropped 6 pounds just with my food choices and no exercise. Then it took me 12 weeks to lose 8 pounds. It was awful!I felt like I was never going to lose the weight. Finally in the beginning of November I was given the green light by my doctor to exercise and I DID!HARD! I worked hard and lo and behold I dropped 6 pounds in 12 days. The last 10 days I have been goofing off and not finishing my walk, not looking for ways to increase my heart rate and guess what...2 pounds lost. I bet I would have lost another 6 pounds if I had continued my exercise regime. I will be really good for a day and work hard and then I am bad for 3 days and hardly work. Why do I do this? It makes me feel awful but I get into a rut!

My point is regardless of what are hormones are doing if we put the right amount of work into it the body will respond.
