I was shopping this weekend, and noticed that Christmas items are already being displayed. Looking at my calendar, I realized that New Year's is only just over 3 months away, and I want to get into my slim "little black dress" again. I am pledging to lose 30 lbs by then. So here's my challenge to all of you. Do you have any special targets for the New Year?

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
I guess noone is thinking about New Year's yet. I must be too far ahead of the norm. But I'm a planner, so I'm going to continue to focus on my target for the New Year. Of course I have set myself mini goals before the end of the year. Hopefully some more people will join me along my journey

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
Actually I was thinking about it as well. New Years is going to be a big time of change for me as I get prepared to start school again (PhD - ugh!). I have a ton (well, not literally, but it seems like it) of weight to lose, and I'm not sure whats a good target, but I'll aim for 50 pounds - 1 every other day or so.

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
Hi APilgrim. Glad you're coming aboard. I was beginning to think I was the only one thinking about New Year! Going back to school for a PHD is a full time job, and eating properly is so important not just for your health, but also for concentration & focussing. So it is important to take care of yourself nutritionally when there is so much else happening. 50 lbs is a very aggressive target for only 3 months. Sometimes we set our targets too high, and unrealistic, and it can be quite discouraging. You haven't said how much weight you need to lose in total. This board is a great place for encouragement so if you run into any obstacles your're in the right place.
Look forward to hearing about your successes in the future months!

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
Your right. However, I do have a lot of weight to lose - usually the larger you are, the more weight comes off just due to how much fat your talking about. I had to order a "high capacity" weight scale so I'm not even sure how much I weigh. I get it tomorrow - I'll weigh and then revise accordingly. I know I weight a lot...thankfully Im tall so while it shows it doesn't show as much as it would if I were shorter...

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
Hi Jeans, welcome to the New Years challenge! Looking forward to sharing in success stories over the next 3 months. Hopefully we'll be able to help eachother through the trials & tribulations, and challenges, and remain focussed on our goals. I too have a mini goal for Thanksgiving, and am well on my way to it. It's great to set mini goals along the way. Makes the longer term goals seem shorter!

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
Alright after being very depressed from looking at the scale, I'm going to go for 40 pounds. I plan to post all my stats in a few days, once I get over the depression of it all (LOL), but I'll go ahead and sign up for 40 pounds by new years!

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
I'm also in for 6 lbs. There are ~12 weeks until New Year, so that means I should lose something like .5 lbs per week.
My stats, as I'm too lazy to edit my signature:starting weight: 160 lbs
current weight: 160 lbs
goal weight by New Year: 154 lbs

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
Hi Georgiana, welcome to the New Year's Challenge. You should be able to lost that 6 lbs way before the end of the year, and get into that special outfit
How's everyone else doing this weekend? I have stayed the same the last few days, but I continue to workout, and I am noticing that my clothes are fitting alot looser. I hope to drop a size pretty soon!

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
I've been sick with a bad cold the last few days, and so haven't been able to do any workouts. I just feel so weak, from the coughing, sneezing and blowing my nose! Maybe by this evening I'll be able to fit in a mini workout to start back again. How's everyone else doing?

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
I would like to set a goal for new years. That is plenty of time to see some fair changes in my body.
My goal is going to be in inches:
Currently my inches are:
waist - 38
thigh - 27
hips - 42.5
bicep - 13.5
By new years my goal is:
waiste - 34
thigh - 24
hips - 39
bicep - 11.5
Is that too ambitious or not ambitious enough...im not totally sure about the inches thing....advice would be great

Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge
Hi Ashley, good to have you here with us, welcome. Your #'s seem reasonable, and with the proper exercise regime you should be able to accomplish them. You should figure out the type of exercising you'll be doing and how many days a week you would like to committ to doing them. There are various challenges happening on the board where you can record and update and be accountable. I myself am involved in 3 exercise challenges. This seems to keep my motivation going. Once you clothes start sagging & getting looser, you'll know you're on your way to getting to your target. Good Luck, and looking forward to hearing about your successes.
