  • Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge

    Thank you for the encouragement.

I posted my menu in the Review my Menu forum and some people suggested that cheese might be causing the stall as my ratios looked about right. I tended to stall around this weight on other programs so it could just be one of those numbers you need to bust through. However, I did take my measurements now so that the scale wouldn't be my only source of feedback.

Tonight will be tricky as it is full of two Christmas parties. Will probably have a few drinks (vodka and soda water) which can also lead to stalls.

    Ah..the holiday

    Have a great day all,

    Rae

Ok....I am going to Bit**. I have been doing 300 crunches a day for 2 weeks.....have lost no inches in my waist. I did lose 1 inch from my lower abdomen but now I look even more lop-sided...lol. Someone at the gym told me that you can train your stomach muscles to actually form during crunches that adds inches to your waist????!!!!!!! WHAT??!!!
Has anyone ever heard of this?

I don't know much about crunches, as the last time I tried them I hurt myself, lol. But what I do know is there is a right way and a wrong way. When I'm cleared to work out at home I'm going to hire a personal trainer to come in and show me what to do...it's still a ways off, but I will sooo share all that info with ya'll.

Thank you, Liss and Razzle! And give Ashlynn (pretty name!) a hug for me, too

Razzle, give yourself some time with the crunches! It does take awhile. I actually stopped doing them 'cos I found that if I sucked in my gut while walking on the treadmill, it had pretty much the same effect. I read that somewhere: If you just make a point to suck in the gut muscles whenever you think of it, you can do quite a bit of toning that way. I'm finally getting definition in my abs just from using this little trick (for the past 3 months). Still got a little "menopot," though ... think I'm stuck with that!

Hey Razzle, try a pilates technique: when you do your crunches, just as you start to contract your stomach muscles, blow out through your mouth with your lips pursed like you're blowing through a straw as forcefully as you can. A good image to keep in mind as you contract is to imagine a zipper that goes from your pelvis to your sternum and as you lift into the crunch, feel that zipper closing from your pelvis upward tightening your muscles as you do it all the way up. Sometimes when people crunch, they use hip flexors and back muscles so the blowing and the visual image help you focus on the correct muscles to engage. Oh and if you put your hands behind your head make sure that you're not pulling on the back of your head - better to get a hand towel and hold it to support your neck in a sling and keep you from putting the deathgrip on your skull while crunching.
I took a course in rehabilitative pilates.

Thank you, Sookie! One of these days I'm going to spring for a digital drawing pad and pen ... drawing with a mouse is a real pain because it's hard to do the details. That mouse keeps trying to get away! Wascally wodent!

You SHOULD be proud of yourself, Rose ... fantastic!!

My husband drove me almost 200 miles roundtrip today so I could enjoy some great Greek food for my b'day (I'm not Greek; I just like the food ) ... enjoyed a big salad; nice and oily, with romaine, cuke, tomato, feta, olives and stinky little fishies ... and a half-pound of plump shrimp cooked with olive oil and lemon. YUM! Who needs birthday cake, when you can have SHRIMP?! OPA!
