Sorry, I didn't know there was anything bad about Catholics in here. I had no intent to offend anyone, the link was sent to me by a friend after hearing about my brother and I posted it for you guys. I've never explored the rest of the site at all.

I know...I was just trying to avoid anyone getting their undies in a twist and unfairly attacking you. It's all good. The board has been kinda weird lately and I just wanted to give a head's up that way nobody would give you any flak. I'm sorry if you think I was being rude or anything, not my intent at all. :hug You've been incredibly cool about this thread considering what you're going through with your brother. The more I read into all this the more I realize how Scientology really exploits people more than help them. Heck...I couldn't afford their religion even if I believed them!

Thanks. It's been hard trying to deal with all this, but at least it validates my beliefs about scientology.

My brother is only 22 and has no job and two years of school w/o any degree, so he can't really afford anything either. Basically, he's a slave for them. He can't pay them, so he lives there and spends every waking minute servicing them. I really don't know how he even got into this, but here's hoping he finds his way out.

The board has been odd lately and I appreicate your posting about the site. I just wanted to validate you in saying I didn't mean any offense on any other religion and I'm not offended at all. Actually, a bit embarassed that I'd post a link without checking out the website more.

I got in on this discussion late, but DH has a tractor to mow some crop circles, and I can exorcise all my "aliens" for $3.60. Maybe I should start my own church....The MotherNature Church of Reality, Barbecue, and Just Plain Fun. Anyone want to donate???? LOL

Nah, don't be. I've done it myself. No biggie. Considering what's going on with your brother you shouldn't even give it a second thought. Hopefully something will trigger in his head and he'll change his mind and get away from them. :hug And about the link, if the board weren't a bit off kilter lately I wouldn't even had brought it up. You obviously have enough to deal with without people having a canary.

And I think Cathy is on to something there! Especially if it involves bbq. yuuuuuuummy!!!! Maybe that's why I joined the Catholic church. Booze and bbq's! Just kidding people!!!!!! :geek

Just thought I'd give a little warning to others to avoid anyone jumping on you. There's enough bickering going on right now as it is. Back to the matter at hand...I found this very very interesting......could explain why a lot of celebrities never leave.

It works like this. Members join the church, begin following the procedures outlined in Dianetics and other introductory coursework, and eventually purge themselves of what they term the "Reactive Mind." This is the self-defeating portion of your psyche, which springs into action at inopportune moments, triggered by traumatic memories. This feat is accomplished through an interactive process called "auditing." which is a strange mixture of psychotherapy and confessional. The subject is compelled to re-live painful and embarrassing episodes, which are duly taken down by an "auditor" and included in the subject's permanent record. The record is maintained and stored by the church. Therefore, the church collects extensive files containing accounts of its members' most shameful moments, things a person would go to great lengths to avoid being made publicly known. For instance, any and all homosexual encounters (defined as "deviant" behavior, and determined to be correctable).
Yea, I read that. Then I read about John Travolta being a scientologist they gave some vague details of"deviant" things in his past, I'm betting they threaten to disclose all the sordid details if you leave!

I also read about the guy who founded the church, what a psycho! Hard to believe that any rational person would get themselves involved in this so called "religion" Amazing. :no

Didn't L. Ron have to live on a ship because if he was to step foot on U.S. soil he would have been arrested? I saw a documentary about him once but it's been awhile ago.

Yep LOL...what a kook. He said the IRS was harassing him, he wanted the FBI to intervene but they ignored him, so he built a couple of ships I think it was, One was named the Apollo. The article said that he became terrified of dentists and doctors while on the ship and addicted to prescription medication (wonder how he got ahold of that?) and quite delusional. I think it said he stayed out in the water for 2 years or so.

Ive been reading the site that was posted! OMG! :yikes Looks definately like a brainwash to me! I think i even read that even people who arent totally convinced will still defend it hoping they will eventually be convinced> and if you put the religion down they are to have nothing to do with you, which is why they cut off their family.......I believe that was on the "How to talk to a scientologist" link. Im just amazed and cant stop reading about them. Interesting and unbelievable! :geek

Me, too! Me, too! I watch Forensic Files and Cops and shows like that. My mom use to read those detective mags when I was a kid but they scared the crap out of me!

I guess we went off topic. :geek Anyway, carry on.

I guess I just don't understand how a cult like Scientology gets so much control over their victims. But, later on I'll read some of the links provided . Maybe there will be some kind of answers there.

                              • I think they get alot of their control thru blackmail! :yes I've never understood it totally either, I mean, if you read about what an all out nut case Hubbard was its hard to believe that anyone would take him seriously and actually "follow" him. But that goes for any of the cults.

How about Charles Manson or that Jones Town guy urplequ:
