  • So whatya reading now

Having finished Harry Potter, I decided to go back and start reading the Amelia Peabody series and decided to start with number one, Crocodile on the Sandbank. I think there are 16 or 17 iin the series so Ill be busy for a long time. Also, I love Tony Hillermans books with Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. I am glad I am retiring cause I will be so busy reading.
So what are you reading now and what is your favorite series.
I think my top three series are Harry Potter, Dorothy Gilman's Ms Pollifax, and Elizabeth Peters, Amelia Peabody, but there are some others that come a close second. I love the Tanner series, Alexander McCall Smiths books about the ever-resourceful Precious Ramotswe, and Lillian Brauns The Cat Who.....

Reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire...next is Order of the Phoenix and of course Half Blood Prince. I've read all these books but I just love to read them over. Another book I like to re-read is Reaper Man...it's hilarious. I never get tired of it.

      Re: So whatya reading now

I read pretty much everything. I just went to the library and picked up a few books. But, I don't have a favorite series other than Harry Potter. I was in a romance mood yesterday, so I picked up 4 romance books around 4pm yesterday. I have already finished one of them.

I figured after I'm done with the other 3, I'll go to the mystery section. It's not always easy to pick out books since I have my daughter with me all the time now, and she likes to pick out books and ask me if I want to read it. Then I have to spend time asking her to put it back. Actually, I didn't want to hurt her feelings yesterday, so I did tell her I wanted to read one of the books she picked out.

I'll read everything. I've read all of the Lemony Snicket books, Spiderwick Chronicles. I don't mind if they are classified as children's books. Also, I figured that once my daughter gets old enough to read books, I may read them with her, in case she wants to discuss the books or anything. She's 4 right now, so I still have time.

        Re: So whatya reading now

There are some great childrens books. I taught myself to read by reading the Oz books, when I was a teen, we had them all, those written by Frank Baum and his son and his secretary. If I had them all now, I would be a rich woman. Anyway, I started reading them and then I read every childs classic I could find. I reread Little Women and Joes Boys not to long ago.
I wish I had a little girl to read to. Secret Garden, OMG, and Ann of Green Gables, and there were so many books that I would love to share with a child now.

I love reading. Just finished Nicholas Sparks' True Believer and Nora Robert's Black Rose. I'll read pretty much anything as well, but my fav authors are James Patterson, Nicholas Sparks, Nora Roberts and Anne Rice (though I haven't seen anything recent out from her).

Speaking of romance novels, I picked up A Season Beyond a Kiss yesterday at the thrift store for $1.20! I like Kathleen Woodiwiss. I've got most of her books. I'm reading The Chamber of secrets to my 2 boys. They're really enjoying the Harry Potter series so far. I read a chapter a night, it takes quite a bit longer to read out loud!

The Saving Graces by Patricia Gaffney. Just started it is pretty good so far.

We go to the book store every time we turn around. Cant keep my daughter in enough books. A speed reader like her mother she had the latest Harry Potter done in just two evenings. I have yet to start the series but plan to this winter.

I actually go to the thrift shop every other Wednesday or so. They have a buy one get one half off on Wednesdays. I bought 10 novels today for $3.75! I don't know how good they will be since I just skimmed them and I still have 3 more books that I checked out from the library that I need to read first.

Currently re-reading my Patricia Cornwell--Scapetta novels. I also enjoy Stephen King, Anne Rice (not as prolific since her husbands death.), Michael Connelly (--think Blood Work with Clint Eastwood), all four Thomas Harris are a twice a year must, John Grisham, and if a historical mood should strike Wilbur Smith (in particular the novels set in Egypt) I guess you could say my taste is eclectic and morbid.

                      Re: So whatya reading now

I'm currently re-reading the "Song of Fire and Ice" series by George R.R. Martin. As much as I love his writing, I have several choice words to say about how long its taking to write the 4th book.

My favorite books include the Amelia Peabody series, "The Sword of Truth" series, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", "Angels and Demons", "As I Lay Dying" and pretty much any "historic romances", heavy on the history, light on the romance. "Mists of Avalon" is awsome as well.

Strangely enough, although I wouldn't call them my favorites, I find myself re-reading the books on my 'required' reading listfrom high school. Some of them really aren't that entertaining, such as "The Canterbury Tales", "Lord of The Flies", "Madame Bovery", "The Great Gatsby", "Crime and Punishment", or "Wide Sargasso Sea", but I'd recommend anyone with a fairly open mind to read "Parfume" by Patrick Suskind. Its a really....odd novel, but its something different too.

The Harry Potter series is excellent. Has anyone read any of the Stephine Plum series by Janet Evanovich? They are very funny. There are 11 of them out now.

Are those the ones that the titles include numbers? I think the title of the first book in the series I'm thinking about is "One for the Money".
