  • Registered kids for school.... broke now!!!

Geez! This week I had to register both my girls for school. One will be in 9th, the othe in 5th. $$650.00, and that is not all of it!!! I had them put one of their book fees (350.00) onto the monthly tuition each month!!!!!!

My kids go to Catholic school.

Isn' t the price of tuition ridiculous!!!!!

There's always that godless public school system.

I know what you're saying...my youngest will be out of daycare in a couple weeks and into Kindergarten!

Believe me when I say it, if I thought that my kids would make it home alive, I would consider public school.. Alas, I must suffer. Our public schools are awful. I live in the deep south, and our town is referred to as Little Chicago and Little Miami around here due to gang/drug infestations. Could not do that to my girls!!!!!!

            Ouch!!

I wrote out checks totalling $200 for my two high schoolers today, and they're IN public schools! Amazing how costly a free education can be!

Free? I think not! In fact all you folks with children in public school should say thank you to all of us who are childless and pay taxes to support the schools your children attend! I've never figured out why folks with kids get tax breaks and I don't..doesn't make sense to me since people with children using the public school system are the ones consuming the most tax dollars. I also think that people that pay to put their children in private schools should get some kind of a tax credit as well.

Re: Registered kids for school.... broke now!!!

Im just about to go back to College part-time myself to train to be a teacher and luckily for me the UK government is paying all my tuition fees, and also lucky for me im buying all the books off two of the recently qualified teachers at the college where I work!!
So all im losing is one days pay per week for 2yrs.... and probably my sanity too...

My son is currently in 6th form (16-19yrs) and other than £35 resources fee his tuition hasnt cost me anything. The expensive one for me will be next year when my daughter moves up to the local catholic high school and the uniform will cost me a fortune!!

But I agree with the post above, nothing truly comes for free,,,,, I wince everytime I see the tax and national insurance £££ that has been deducted at source from my pay packet!!

Re: Registered kids for school.... broke now!!!

I guess you pay for our childrens schooling for the same reason I have to pay for a 14yr olds medical costs when she decides to get knocked up. My husband works, I stay home with our children (which is cheaper than me working and paying for day care) and because his company is small the boys and I pay for our own insurance w/ $2500 deductible and $220 a month. Oh and it doesn't cover pregnancy. But 25% of my husbands pay gets handed over to people who refuse to use some restraint in the bedroom and there fore can't afford to pay med expenses for pregnancy and feed all of their children. I know some people need help, my dad was 16 when I was born, and he raised me by himself. But I would rather pay for a childs education, than someones sexual misconduct!!! Sorry JMHO.

That knocked up 14 yr old is still somebody elses kid to me, just like yours are, so I'm paying for the knocked up kid, her education, her kid's education and your kid's education and I don't even have kids!

Oh, and I pay for my own insurance as well, and it costs $334.32 (and that only covers me!) a month with a $2,500 deductible as well! So there!

And your childhood education...private school paid by your parents? Any grants for your higher education? (you seem from you posts to have some college under your belt)

If I remember correctly the government does or did provide vouchers for parents wishing to send their children to private school. I know you can put money aside tax free from your paycheck for the purpose of daycare/school if your employer provides such a program.

I will agree to disagree if you will. Personally I would love to keep all of our tax money and hire private teachers. However if I must pay taxes, and to live in this great country I must, then I would prefer it is to help educate, as opposed to help procreate.

The system doesn't work. Does it? I WISH my parents had put me in private school. Unfortunately, they couldn't afford it. I went to a school where the police had considered putting an office on the school premises because they were literally there every day for gang violence. Believe me, when a student who pulls a knife on another student in English class during the middle of a teachers lecture, it puts a damper on the teachers ability to teach.

I don't mind making a contribution towards public education though, because I feel it's important. Although, taxes in general, I'm not real fond of. I'm not even going to get into healthcare in this country. Bottom line is, it doesn't work.

My parents paid for private school for us, there were no vouchers. I worked and paid my own way thru college, except for my first year, which my parents helped me with. No grants or such. My folks phliosphy was you don't appreciate anything unless you have to work to get it.

I'm just always amazed at how folks complain about the cost of raising the children that they decided to bring into this world! Its not like you're required to have children, its a choice that you make.

I can agree to disagree, no problem there.

Is it really different than having a dog and complaining about vet bills or grooming? Having a car and complaining about the upkeep? It was just a complaint of rising costs, not a complaint about having the kids in the first place.
