Hubby thinks it's Regulus Black. I honestly have no idea!

I also am wondering if perhaps RAB could be Amelia Bones?

There's a theory that it could be 2 or 3 people as well!

What if "R" was Ravenclaw" , "A" was "And", and "B" was Botts? After all, was Botts the one from whom Volde-- erm-- whatshisname harrassed so many years ago to procure an object from him?

Well, it has to be someone with powers greater than Dumbledorfs. Speaking of the big. Do you think that his death was a sacrifice?
1) Snape did not know that Harry was a witness but it could have possibly been a set up.

I may be in the minority here, but I think Snape is still in the Order. I think that Dumbledore knew he wasn't gonna make it, so when he was pleading w/ Snape... I think he was begging him to kill him. He was protecting Harry and also keeping Snape from blowing his cover w/ the Deatheaters.

Just a thought....

I think RAB is going to end up being Sirius' brother and in the next book he'll make a return however I bet he looks just like Sirius and Harry will be fooled into thinking that Sirius somehow survived the fall behind the veil! Since there was no body I bet RAB could really hoodwink Harry! That's one of my theories anyway. Came up with it not too long ago. We had another Harry Potter discussion going on. It was pretty good. I'll see if I can find the link.

Ok, well, I'm glad I found this thread, because this is Topic Number One at my household.

RAB has to be REgulus A. Black, who is now dead. Voldemort killed him and the note indicates he knew he would die.

We tend to agree about Snape being a good guy. We think Dumbledore made him promise to kill him if necessary. Snape probably agreed initially but later changed his mind, which is why he was arguing with Dumbledore that one time when someone overheard him.

Now, here's my hubby's brilliant theory: Snape is with the good guys and the reason Dumbledore trusts him is that he knew the Secret. The Secret is that Snape was secretly madly in love with lily Potter. When he tattled to Voldemort about the Potters and Voldemort killed Lily, Snape never could forgive himself. He immediately went to Dumbledore and pledged loyalty to the good guys.

So why does Snape hate Harry? Because Harry has his mother's eyes. Because Lily died saving Harry. Because every time he looks at Harry, he remembers Lily.

Hmmmm....JUST when I thought I'd heard and discussed all possible theories, a new one comes along. I agree that Snape is still in the order, and killed Dumbledore per an agreement they'd made. HOWEVER, I'd never considered that Snapes secret is that he was in love with Lily. Very very interesting indeed...it seems to fit, and it sounds like something that Jo Rowling would write.

I think that RAB is Regulus Black, although OOTP (Order of the Phoenix) never mentions what his middle name is. AND, if you recall, in the book when they were cleaning out a cabinet at Grimmauld Place, they came across an old, heavy locket that wouldn't open. I think that THAT was the horcrux that Regulus stole.

As much as I hate to believe it, I think that both Sirius and Dumbledore are really dead. In a recent interview, Jo Rowling said that both of them needed to die because the hero (Harry, naturally) had to go at it alone.

Has anyone ever wandered over to Mugglenet? www.mugglenet.com is the address. It's an awesome website, and has LOTS of editorials and discussions on theories and whatnot. It also contains the most up to date HP information...

Oh, yah! My husband mentioned the locket in the cabinet being the horcrux.....I forgot about that!

We have to wait another 2 years for the book because that selfish witch JK Rowling went and got herself a life. (Oh, and millions of dollars, as well.) haha

I guess she's just like the rest of us... when you're happy and have alot going on in your life (marriage, children and did I mention millions of dollars Haha), the last thing you want to do is work. Too bad for us that she can't be like Nora Roberts and put out like 100 books a year. haha

Well, Jo Rowling said that while she was doing some work on the book now, she won't really begin writing in earnest until the beginning of next year. She's got 3 children, two of them very young. She said that with each child, she's been trying to give each one a year of semi-uninterrupted mom-time. It's anticipated that the schedule for this book will follow the schedule for HBP....she'll begin writing at the beginning of next year, finish at the end of the year, and it'll take spring of 2007 for the editing and publishers to print it and whatnot, which gives a tentative release date of summer 2007. I do remember that the release dates were moved to the summertime, so that children could stay up late and not worry about school and loss of sleep...

Seriously, I think it is cool that she is making her kids a priority, but dang, I gotta gotta gotta read that book!
