Re: Some Students Embarrassed By Dress Code T-Shirts

it takes about 10 pair of them to last as long a a pair of New Balance...

besides.. they're good kids... and while they're NOT really the kids that HAVE to have the best/latest name brand stuff... I just won't send them to school in cat head tennis shoes... 6th grades can be cruel....

jeans.. shirts, notebooks, backpacks.. all that stuff.. they could care less...

and like I said.. it's almost a family thing...

I CAN'T wear plastic shoes from payless.. they're not good for your feet...

I've just always bought them decent name brand shoes/boots....some things.. you do get what you pay for...

now I ALWAYS pick the good stuff.. on sale...

Well I think an adult deserves an indulgence, boots are yours! Kids on the other hand, I think if they have to have name brands they should get a job and pay for them. My mom wouldn't even let us buy levi's back when they were only like 13 bucks a pair, we had to buy the JC Penney brand that were 9 bucks. I still buy my clothes from Kmart, Walmart TJ Maxx etc. I will buy some things at places like Belks if they are marked down to like 75% off! And wannabe, my tennis shoes cost $3.94 a pair at Walmart, I just treated myself to 2 new pairs last weekend! A black pair and a white pair! and I was excited!

Well at my daughter's age, she outgrows them before they wear out.

I think we pretty much had the same childhood and I agree about kids earning brand name things if that's what they want. I wanted a bike when I was young so I had to wait 'till I was old enough to get a summer job and buy one.

There's nothing wrong with the quality of walmart products...expecially for children who outgrow things before they wear out....and no, I don't work there or own any stock in the company.

I couldn't run in $500 shoes, I'm partially disabled in that department.

But they do sell running shoes for under 20 bucks that work just fine, John buys them, but then again, he can buy the 50 dollar ones if he wants, after all, he earns his own money! I guess it just comes down to what ever you were taught growing up. My parents philosophy was that you would never appreciate any unless you had to work for it.

Re: Some Students Embarrassed By Dress Code T-Shirts

Sometimes I think that the Baby Boomers have created these monsters! I grew up just having necessities, no fancies, no designer names. I tried to instill this in my daughter, who was competing with other teenagers, who wore designer clothes, etc. I did not give in to it, but rather told her if she wanted them, then she had to pay for them! So alot of her work after school money went to $100+ shoes, and jeans! BUt that was her choice, and her paying for them!

My step-daughter came over awhile ago, she's 17, wearing a very offensively written t-shirt. I am too embarrassed to say what it said. My husband, her dad, made her take it off, and said to her how rude and offensive, and how he didn't want me to see it! Many times, when she lived with us, I made her change the clothing she was wearing, before going out. Now she lives with her mother, and wears anything....no rules or regulations there!

Parents are there to guide our children, not to necessarily change their personalities, but to give direction, on what's right and wrong. We don't want a bunch of degenerates out there in 20 years, what chance will there be for their kids?

And they should all have little flag patches and line up in the morning and salute the principal.

                          Iapetus,

I find you quoting me and then posting **** school children to be very offensive and inappropriate.
