  • American vs British

I am still learning the major differences between the to "english languages". ie the different names that we have for different things. I am starting this thread to see how many different ones spring to different peoples minds.......

    British - American

    Rubbish - Trash
    Trousers - Pants

    May the list continue!!!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Being on Atkins, it's understandable you forgot about chips (British) = fries (American). Also correct me if I'm wrong on this one...

      fag (British) = cigarette (American)

... and don't get me started about Filipino English.

Yes you are correct with the word Fag. But it also means something else aswell.

Of course Robbie, how could I forget it. Chips v Fries is one of the most obvious.

Of course, that leads on to another.

We fall Potato chips, Potato crisps!

(another blatant example of a waste of time for a food. I mean what do they actually do? Its not as if they are even filling!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Another one that completely slipped my mind!

My nickname is Biscuit, and I use it as a log in on a number of other boards.

We have a brand of biscuits over here called "rich tea", almost my name! LOL.

I didnt think it would be ethical to have my name on here as Biscuit especially as its a high carb thing and all that!!! LOL

I've never heard the term "Chesterfield" before.
