  • Cesar Millan -- The Dog Whisperer

Hey, has anyone seen Cesar Millan -- "The Dog Whisperer" on National Geographic?

We just bought his DVD off Ebay on People Training and he is pretty good. He makes sense and now we are trying to apply it to our puppy. The only thing my husband keeps saying is that he wishes he would have demonstrated more on the DVD.

What do you think? Ever try any of his techniques?

    I like him!
I watched him on TV this summer when I was in the states and really enjoyed him and his accomplishments. I think he is wonderful and was pleasantly surprised to see that I already used some of the techniques he spoke of.
Congratulations on your puppy!!!! What breed and what did you name him?

      Hi Lady Hawke!

Our baby is Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mixed. His name is Shadow and he is not quite as large as a GP, but larger than a Border Collie. He has the markings of the BC, but the GP look (face). He is about 10 months old now and so adorable. We just love him!! Neither of us were allowed pets (inside) while we were growing up so this is a new experience for us. I do feel that we need another dog to keep him company since we are gone 9 - 10 hours per day during the work week.

Once we get some pictures scanned, I'll try to post them here or on my journal page for everyone to see.

What kind of dog do you have?

Shadow sounds adoreable! I can't wait to see his picture! We have an orange cat named George. A gordon setter named Sandi and a (my sweetie) America Akita named Ralphy. All are animals are indoor/outdoor. They are part of the family! You and your DH will love having a dog! Good idea on getting Shadow a buddy.

          Lady,

Did you get any of your dogs as puppies?

Our biggest problem is mouthing. We've read articles on how to get him to stop, but nothing works. We know he is a dominant breed, but surely we can get it across to him somehow?

          Any suggestions?

I emailed Cesar's website to see if they plan on having their first season on DVD. So far, no answer. I'm hoping to find something that helps. (I'm also thinking of inquiring on his website for tips to stop this.)

Re: Cesar Millan -- The Dog Whisperer

I got both of my dogs as puppies. Ralphy tends to mouth on his babies (stuffed animals), Sandi on the other hand liked our hands, so we would make a noise, tell her "no chew, mine" and hand her something she could chew on. Then tell her that what ever we handed her was Sandi's "Piggy" "Cheese" "Frog" or whatever.
            Good Luck with your sweetie!

We don't always have something handy...but that is a good idea and we'll give that a shot.

I emailed Cesar Millan's website to see if they could offer any advice...

I saw that they are putting the first season of the "Dog Whisperer" out on DVD. I can't wait! That is going on my "Wish List"!!

How is Shadow doing? Still "mouthing" as much? I just love puppies!!!
We had several inches of snow last night and Ralphy is in 7th heaven! He just adores the snow and cold - he loves to be outside playing and eating the snow! He is so funny to watch!

                  Hey Lady!

I'm trying to stuff something in his mouth when he goes to put his mouth on me. So far it is working for me, but my husband plays rough with him and they go round and round with the mouthing and my husband ends up getting mad at him.

Hopefully, after watching some videos and reading on dog training, we'll both get the hang of it soon.

                  Thanks for asking! You're sweet!

No snow here... but I'm sure wishing for a big truckload to come our way! It would be fantastic if it would happen over our Christmas holiday. I'd love to play in the snow with the puppy!

Oh, as I have been looking through websites on dogs and such I posted a few cute pictures in my journal if you want to go look at them. It should be within the last five pages or so. You can click on my journal link below...
Hope you have a GREAT weekend!

You have any pictures you can post of your GPs? Do you have a male and a female?

Here's a few from when we first got him...

The last time we weighed Shadow he was around 80 pounds. That was several months ago so we are not sure what he weighs now. His annual check-up is due in April so I'll update everything in my journal then.

We calculated that his birthday must be around Feb 17...so that makes him a year old now. But, we got him on my husband's birthday so we are celebrating their special day together.

He is just so adorable. I love having a doggie!!
