I am about ready to start family fun night with the kids. There is a pile of board games on the kitchen table just waiting for mom to get back, so we can start playing Life, Risk, Cranium, and/or Monopoly. The kids are already jacked up on the baked goods (had sweets to get rid of in the house), so I am sure midnight will be no problem for them -- especially those who took naps today. The turkey is ready in the brine for tomorrow. How is everyone else going to welcome (or already did for our European friends) the New Year's?

We're watching movies, Sleepy Hollow and Fantastic 4, enjoying our Buffalo wings!
We have our hats, noise makers and poppers at the ready on the dining room table.
DH is already asleep (*sigh*)...but that's okay, I'll wake him up at 11:30ish!Shelly

Re: How are you going to welcome in the New Year?
My hubby and I did the Resolution Run (photo on my webpage - but not a great one). My son went to friends. I think he came back just after 10:00, though (I heard the phone ring just after I went to bed. All that training for the last two weeks has caught up with me, I guess. We have one more day - Jan 2nd, where we get tested on what we've learned (our ability to drive the trucks successfully) - unless we don't pass, and then it's more training/testing. I need to pass, because I'm back to my regular job on the 3rd. I can't remember the last time I didn't work a 7-day week (yes, there's Christmas Day and today, but it hardly seems like a break).Started Atkins: 21 Sep 2003

Re: How are you going to welcome in the New Year?
Okay, this is news to me. What's with New Year's and board games? It seems a lot of the people I PM'd mentioned they're playing board games (or completing jigsaw puzzles) for New Year's Eve.
Here in the Philippines, the usual tradition is to light firecrackers. The bigger, the louder, the better. The whole country sounds like it's in a war zone.Robbie T., 240/180/160. 41yr Male, Height 5'9"

Re: How are you going to welcome in the New Year?
We always do fireworks here. Many friend come to our house because we live in the country and better for the fire works. This year there was a ban on all since are so many fires and everything is dry.
As for board games what else can you do with kids at that hour?lol~Lauren~

Re: How are you going to welcome in the New Year?
Also, sorry to hear about your spoiled plans and sick children, Wanna.
Yes, it provides just a bit of calm (although with my son that is marginal) as we attempt to wait out the clock moving by. It's a good thing nights are not judged by board game results as I went sadly 0 for 2 in ours, being beaten badly in Kid's Cranium and Risk. We sadly can't shoot off fireworks here in Iowa (illegal) and usually on the cold side.
As my boy just told me -- he slept through the midnight balldrop, Happy 2006 Everybody!Kent - 35-M-6'4"
