  • Youngest? Oldest? Middle Child of your Family?

I have a theory I wanted to test.

If you are the oldest child (or know of one)...are they the more rebellious child of the family? Sometimes the black sheep? They usually leave home the earliest out of all the children? (These are the experimental children because this is the first child our parents have and are testing their "parenting" wings.)

Are you the youngest child? You're more outgoing and social? More likely to act like a clown and have fun?

Are you one of the middle children? The middle children stick together and seem responsible?

I was just checking some thoughts out and wanted to see what you think? I am the youngest of my family and have always loved to be around people. Whereas, my sisters & brother are more introverted.

    What about your family?

Nope I think you have it all wrong! LOL, I'm the dreaded middle child! I was the most rebellious and the least responsible!

My brother (the oldest) was a teeny bit rebelllious as a teen but quickly outgrew it, I never have! He is the responsible one!

My sister is the youngest, I guess you could say she's out going in some respects--as far as being involved in her childrens' lifes but she's the more shy reserved homebody type.

I'm the youngest and in real life am not very outgoing or social at all. My oldest brother sure is though. I wasn't the biggest troublemaker in my family, but I did cause some. I may be the most stubborn though. lol

My honey is the 2nd oldest, of 10 kids! How do you work that into your theory?!

3 girls...I'm the middle one. I'm shy but like to have fun and I'm also very responsible. I've been told that I'm a troublemaker....I guess I like to stir things up at times.

My younger sister is not responsible at all but is very outgoing...she's a bit of a flake.

My older sister had mental disabilities so it's hard to clasify her.

Hum...I guess I'd put him in the "middle child" class.

One thing that I've heard before (I think Dr. Phil said) was that the oldest and the youngest child were usually close and the middle children were close to each other.

In my family my middle sister and brother are close and will call each other. It used to hurt my feelings since I would try to keep in touch with them...then when I couldn't afford Long-Distance at one time I stopped and no one ever called me. Then I heard about the middle children being close and Dr. Phil said that you should not get your feelings hurt...that was just how it was with most siblings. My oldest sister and I were close years ago then she had a falling out with my Mom and stopped communicating with everyone in the family. Now her and I are talking again...but I wish it would be all of us.

Hmmm, I'm the second oldest of 4. I moved out the youngest, and am the craziest, loudest one of the bunch....

The oldest is kinda like me, but a little more reserved, the one under me is normal, and the youngest is the silly one.

There are four of us. I'm number 3. The older two were much more rebellious ( I never have been and am very responsible). the youngest does like to have fun and is more easy-going than I am.

We fit into that theory pretty well.

Only child, not shy, rebellious, bit of a risktaker but not extreme, and very independant. Also like my solitude , I love having the house to myself..had a really hard time when hubby and I first moved in together. Was quite spoiled - but not to the brat stage LOL. parents taught me to appreciate what i had.

                    No theory on only children?

I have one brother who is 7 years younger than me. I moved out to go to school at 17...I lived at home 2 summers after that, but then I met my boyfriend (now husband) and started living with him during school holidays. Since I was 7 when my bro was born, I was really protective and responsible for him. I was his "little mom". I have always been very responsible and introverted. He has been basically an only child since he was 10...so he is a lot like me. Kind of keeps to himself, though he is definitely NOT responsible. lol My SU is the same way, his sis is 6 years older than him.

Re: Youngest? Oldest? Middle Child of your Family?

I was born the middle child out of 3 girls, and was the middle child up until the age of 17, then our oldest sister died.

Before my older sister died, her and my youngest (who was 5 1/2 years younger than me), would always stick together as sort of a team, eventhough my oldest sister and I grew up together (we were only 2 1/2 years apart). But having said that I was the one who was responsible during high school, etc, compared to both my sisters.

My older sister went off to university for the first 2 years, then the tragedy happened right after her second year. It affected our whole family tremendously for at least a period of 5 years. Now I feel my place in the family has shifted from being middle to the oldest.

I bet you are a great middle child, and a wonderful oldest sister. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. You are a strong person, and that's great for anyone to look up too!
